200$ more and not risking the racing / stunting ticket in Ontario is worth it to me especially given you're in the GTA. Heck when I was in the NCR I almost made the 8hr drive down to see freektune in person.

initially I had remembered my last etune being around $320cad. When I reached out to the etuner again the price is now higher cause of the cams.

I guess for $200ish you’re probably right. Just wait until I can have it on the dyno

Im not sure why the cost would be higher cause of cams. All that really comes down to is some idle/VVT adjustments.

If it were me I'd wait for the dyno tune. Safer and more accurate. Plus you'll get actual power numbers.

I too was surprised at the added cost for the aftermarket cams. End of the day I send logs and they modify. Who cares what cams the car has.

i think I’ve been talked into just waiting and collecting a few more bucks towards the dyno tune now

Recently sold my Cobb Downpipe I had as a spare for my car. I actually got it for free and was tired of tripping over it so finally posted it.
Only got $300cad for it which is disappointing and even that was a fight.

J37 throttle body upgrade. Off of an Acura ZDX. 80mm vs stock of 60mm. Apparently this mod really comes into play when you have cams/more rpm. It should benefit me a good bit.

Swapping the throttle blade motors. Apparently the big boi can pull too much current and throw the car into limp mode. The other issue guys have is the throttle blade not opening fully. Apparently the fix is to just swap the internal motor/gear. Simple enough

I need a 3” to 3.5” straight coupler now for the new TB but after that the car is basically ready to dyno tune. Catback needs to go on but I’ll have the shop do that.

Turns out I need a 3.25” to 3.5” coupler. The one I amazoned didn’t fit the throttle body(3.15”).

seems like couplers are stupid expensive these days. $40-60cad for a 3” long coupler? Get outta here. I can literally close this gap with some tin foil tape. Come on.

I returned the Amazon coupler and found a local shop advertising a PRL 3.25”-3.5” coupler for $17cad. Ordered that lastnight. Get an email today “ummm yea that’ll be like 2-3 weeks. We can offer you a vibrant coupler in its place though” I’m like yea how much?? $46cad plus tax.

told them I’ll just wait for the prl. This is freaking ridiculous lol.

This is kinda gay but I think it’s sick. Every track I’ve driven so far. Hoping to add many more!

That isn’t even all of them lol. Just the ones I’ve driven so far.

I’m fortunate for sure. Calabogie is world class and it’s 5 hours away.
    Mosport is 2 hours away
    TMP is 1.5 hours away
Grand bend is 2 hours away

still have to visit shannonville which is about 3 hours away.

    Haha. A little eh?
I still need to drive the Mosport Grand Prix track. Maybe this year.

So, its getting closer to April/spring. No idea if the car works yet lol but funds are low, and will continue to remain low for the summer.

I am thinking i will need to send it on a base map only. As i mentioned before a full etune is approx 400cad. Dyno tune would be 600cad. No point is going for the Etune at that pricing.

option 3 came to me last night. Base map from the Etuner. Their website says the base map is custom built for the cars exact modifications, but I also know they’ve tuned 1000’s of these cars and most likely have come across my exact setup. They will calibrate the throttle body and get the car to run/idle properly. They also do one free revision just to make sure the cars safe. After that it would be up to me to tune the car the rest of the way. The map comes unlocked with the intention that YOU will tune the car yourself.

    This option is 180cad.
    https://e-tunez.com/services/customized-base-map-request

I think this option offers solid value. Itll get the car running safe and correctly. I can add fuel/timing during WOT pulls myself. That is seemingly pretty straight forward. Tuning for power and all. Im assuming the base map will have all the idle/part throttle/vtec stuff ironed out...mostly anyways. They even cover all the cam angle tuning which is nice for me.

This will allow me to get started on the season for alot less money. I can always dyno tune later if funds magically appear!

    Thoughts?

think of it this way also since you are actually using the car on the track and not just doing glory rolls on the highway after school, you dont really want to have the tune pushing the last 5-10 hp out of the car anyway if the base tune gets you to something that is considered "very safe" for your mods it would likely be ideal for your use leaving some head room for heat soak etc

I’ve always approached my tunes this way. Even with the Mazda. Max power was never the goal. Just get me like 80% of the potential power, make sure drivability/part throttle is smooth, and send it.

the idea is even if the car makes a low ~200-210whp that’s still a 50whp gain. That’ll be tons over the whole curve.

This option is definitely sounding good to at least get me going here

600 CAD to USD is about 430 dollars. I say we get a small fundraiser for you cause if 10 people chip in 30 dollars and you cover the rest (the 180 CAD you'd spend on the base map) that's the cost of a dyno tune.

I would definitely be down for this haha. If people wanted to help that is...

I would be OK if i wasnt single income for so long. Girlfriend starts her school placement in may, thats unpaid so thatll be 8 more months of me being single income. She'll be working even more part time so the struggle is already here, and only increasing.

Im OK with the fact that the civic wont be getting any life altering changes this season. tires are already purchased/paid for. Brakes for the season are also already purchased/paid for. I need to be able to afford track days, fuel, oil, and hopefully thats it. No trips to the states this season unfortunately but i may do something fun here locally(maybe competition or visiting the GP track so i can max out 5th gear up the straight LOL).

anywayss...the struggle continues. The base map option is there if i cant get the funds for dyno.

I popped by the shop on tuesday. They are getting hit with the great phone calls of "hi there spring is near and my car needs everything, do you have any availability??" so they will be booked up soon enough. Specially having the dyno now.

May 7th is the first event. This one is free as i work for the organizer. Id love to make it. Second event is may 17th. Technically there is an event may 6th as well id love to make but funds may leave that one out.

If I thought there was a chance people wanted to see a balding overweight 42 year old dude I would be all about it and not ashamed at all.

I do have pretty hairy Hobbit feet though maybe people are into that
