I put in a few hours at the shop last Saturday tearing down their new civic race car. Just started on stripping the interior and prepping the exterior to have it moulded.

they asked me today if I’d be in tomorrow. I asked if this would help with my bill when it comes time for my car. The answer? Yes.

so I will trade my labour on the weekends to help cover dyno tuning and other car setup costs.

    works for me!!!!!!

another week or two of working Saturday’s and my tune should be paid for. I was asked to bring my car in asap lol. Maybe soon things will start to progress here

Catalytic converter paid for today. These are expensive as absolute fuck. I paid $393cad though…no idea how they hooked me up that hard but damn. Love it.

    retail pricing is disgusting

I'm guessing they have real emissions inspections up there

No emissions inspection what so ever here.
The issue is getting stopped on the street. Past few years they have been impounding cars left right and center for no cat.

buddy in his frs got stopped on his way to the track last year. Cops always camp out by the track. He got $900 for improper exhaust blah blah but the cop told him had he not had that aftermarket cat in there his car would be on route to the impound lot and he’d have the maximum fine which is $10,000. I drive my car way too much to take these risks.

Bypassing emissions. Big big ticket. Plus they’ll impound you.

it’s kind of bullshit but they camp on the road leading to the track in Cayuga. There’s only 2 ways in and cops chill on both sides. With how often I’m visiting the track i really didn’t want to take any chances.

i got stopped at 8am on route to another track. It was a freaking ride program they were looking for drunks. I was sweating bullets thinking the second they smell my catless ass I’m dead. Luckily they didn’t notice and just waved me through.

civic is a big target. I was never as worried in the Mazda.

What about trailered vehicles? They stopping those on the way to the track as well?

Nope. Just street driven stuff. Tow dollies also get stopped since technically the vehicle is still touching the ground. It needs to be road legal.

it’s stupid but that’s how it is here. I won’t have a tow rig for sometime so for now, catalytic converter. Sucks but is what it is

I was just curious. Can't complain too much if that's what the law is. Here we just have to worry about passing obd2 emissions test every two years. Never hear of anyone getting a ticket for catless. Too loud yes but only if your being an asshole and they want to throw the book at you.

Could you install a cat shaped pipe with nothing in it?

I was thinking about a fake cat but hearing stories of people having their exhausts bore scoped with a camera to look for Bluetooth cats has scared me straight.

it ain’t cheap. But it’s a TON better then having my car taken away and being hit with insane fines or potentially having the car crushed. This happens here.

That's insane that they are going to that length to catch the 0.01% of cars running around catless

So the main cause of this shit has come around the last 4-5 years. Modified cars. Street racing. Organized street racing. It’s been huge here for years.

now with how easy it is to raise complaints via social media and whatnot we now have all these stupid initiatives to basically eliminate street racing/modified cars.

2020 project noisemarker started. Specially targeting cars with loud exhausts. Easy money.

2019 we got project ERASE. “Eliminate Racing Activity on Streets Everywhere”.
Again, targeting anything and everything even slightly modified.

the amount of logs and shit I did in my Mazda and cops wouldn’t even look at me. I was invisible.

with the civic it’s the complete opposite. I got my first speeding ticket ever in 10 years of driving in the civic. It was a minor one but still. Red civic loud exhaust? Easy money.

the main city area around me is loaded with kids buying 10 times pre-owned mazdaspeeds civics genesis gti’s you name it. Street take overs? Huge here. Well they were till the rest of the car community started making fun of those kids. Anyways. There’s a ton of modified shit around here so I guess it’s just easy easy money.

The best part is them saying “take it to the track”. Then they wait out front the track and fuck people there too. It’s sad

The fuzz goes all Stasi here for anything that isnt showroom stock. In the "amazingly vague" Ontario Traffic Act, its easy to ascertain original replacement is the only way. Both to our advantage and disservice, many officers dont know a spark plug from a butt plug. Because of this you have people who get raped for having performance and people getting raped for having performance regardless of science. Its a crap shoot if you get a bad cop or one having a good day. Generally if you keep it discreet you can get away with moderate performance. However in the case of anything popular the automotive version of profiling equals real action for police brass.

So over the last few months I’ve noticed the car has an odd inconsistent no start. I noticed it more when I reconnected the battery cables earlier this year. Then I disconnected them again after installing the throttle body. Connected them back. No start.

found this, positive battery terminal that I’ve already replaced once,
    C3EC66F0-A965-4ADA-A4E7-7F9EB3EEFA9A.jpeg

“Well there’s your problem” I thought to myself. Quick stop up at crappy tire(like our harbor freight) and $5 later and we’re back in action. Installed a new terminal. Same one. Alls good.

car fires up! Wooo. Get out of the car. Go to lock it. Nothing.

get back in, try to start again, it’s like the batteries dead.

I grabbed my multi meter just to see what the battery was doing during crank. One probe wedged in the positive terminal and one wedged in the negative.

car fires right up!! No problem. 14.4volts at the battery and alls well.

remove the multi meter. Go to fire up car again?

dead. No signs of life. Literally like no one’s home. Here we go…

After redoing the ground wires I finally today replaced the battery terminal. It seems to be proper now. Here’s hoping for no hassles with this.
    A15A673C-6B31-4D81-8076-56F0B8D30EE0.jpeg

I think I will end up cleaning up some of the crap on the frame rail there and see if I can use that larger hole. I’ll get a bigger bolt. Sand it down nicely and use that for long term.
At least for now, she starts and runs OK.

PS. I am still concerned with the amount of blow by at idle. Removing that oil cap and it’s like damn…but I really don’t have any gauge to tell if it’s excessive or not. I’m still nervous with this thing. I did crack vtec today on the jack stands and it was loud lol.

If blow by is that bad you could remove the valve cover and put some scrubbers into the PCV baffling. Miata owners have been known to that in extreme circumstances.

Or maybe run an vacuum pump from a GM connected to the cover. Wire it up with a relay to 12V ignition and you'd be good to go. You can find those pumps on Acadia and Traverse models. They're right at the front under the hood.
