Not sure if this is the right section. If not @Raider please move it.

It was highly recommended to me I unplug my EGR to help with keeping the valves clean. My tuner (Justin) agreed and provided me a tune to account for that.

So I started doing some research, and also read the thread here about how to delete the EGR. But I really don't understand the difference between deleting it vs. just unplugging it. Further confusing the situation, here in the Atlanta area, we have emissions testing. I assume if it's unplugged, I need to plug it back in for testing. If it's deleted, what does that mean for testing?

Only real concern is if the EGR is gummed up, it may not be fully closed. I have seen people post about that. Deleting straight up removes the EGR from the equation for a few bucks in materials. FWIW, I have a blockoff plate. The EGR delete kit is on my workbench though.

As long as your egr closes, unplugging will prevent the exhaust gasses from recirculating.

However, if you're into extra expenses, cleaner looks, reduced weight, removal of unused parts, and extra space...egr delete may be your bag, baby, yea...

Removing the EGR makes for easier swapping of turbos.

Unplugging it is best if you would have too mane not ready codes for emissions. You can plug it back in flash a map and be good to go for emissions, then unplug it immediately after.

Going bigger turbo usually makes it necessary to remove as the space is needed.

True. The only catch is if it is caked in carbon and not fully closed.

I run unplugged because the EGR is closed until energized, so it's effectively a delete. Then, when inspection time comes around, I replug and re-flash an EGR-codes-enabled map.

Bear in mind you get a few less MPG and a tad more KR-proneness without EGR.

Not sure how your county emission testing is, but here where I live, we can have two non ready sensors. I have a full egr delete and I still pass my inspection.

That cat is your saving grace. I have 1 not ready already being catless. The EGR would add two more, that's why I do the plug/un-plug thing.

Lol definitely is. Well either way, you need a cat to pass iirc.

    *Technically* ;) Thankfully we're not in "Nazi-fornia"

And though I like cats (animals), I hate cats (in my exhaust). I easily lost a good 15whp with just a single high-flow cat. Lots of logging showed me how much it sucked, haha.

Unplugged mine last night after running some Techron through for the last couple of weeks to hopefully clear out any gumminess that would keep the valve from closing; going to eventually do the block off/delete but this sounds like a good, easy option for the time being.

You'll notice a big difference in bat's if the egr is sealing shut

I'm having a problem with some stutter under boost around 4k rpm. Also some popping. Just ordered step colder plugs and just unplugged the egr. I'm waiting on my DM delete kit.

After unplugging the egr I no longer have stutter at 4k rpm. I also didn't throw p0401 or p0403.
