I don`t hide that I`m not Corksport`s biggest fan. It has NOTHING to do with the quality of their products, but you know how sometimes a product or company rubs you wrong and it sticks. Hence my stance.

With that said, my Speed3 had a CS SRI/TIP on it when I bought it. Ran great, no complaints. I knew I`d swap it for a JBR eventually, but it didn`t kill me to have it on there. Well, I get my AP and venture into the various maps available (mind you my JBR is in fact ordered, and the associated tune), and they`re all calibrated to Cobb`s intake. Head to the CS website, figuring it would just make sense that they`d have an OTS map or two with their own calibrations. Nope. Got a link to the Cobb OTS maps, and some calibration files you can`t use anymore because you can`t get into accesstuner (also an entirely different discussion).

So here I am with an intake, catback, and HPFP upgrade and no "appropriate" tune calibration for one of the most popular intakes on the market. I`m not bitching, not even mad. It`s not about that and I`m not in this to stir the pot. Simply a discussion and sharing of experiences. I did load the stage 2 map, and it works OK. Boost is a little lower than it`s supposed to be, but the change in drivability is welcome (torque is much more linear now vs the "rear ended by a bus" application of all-of-a-sudden boost stock). To say I am excited about the Stage 3 E85 tune that will be loaded in a week is the understatement of the year. And that is just what`s going to hold me over until I figure out just how far I want to take this vehicle with BT and full custom tune. I said 400hp would be enough, but I`ve owned five 500HP+ vehicles, two of which broke 600 and I suspect somewhere along the way I`ll get that bug again. No interest today, but the first time I really lay into it after this phase is done and I`m reminded of what higher than average HP feels like.....*sigh*

So what have you guys experienced along the way that were little hiccups? Things that were more annoying than troublesome, but there none the less?

I'm just curious what made you choose JBR over some of the other brands. What other JBR parts do you have?

I was running a 2.5" intake and tip , FMIC. Stock downpipe. Stage 1 91 OTS got my 23 psi boost creep and could have blown my motor. So stage 0 and got a tune from Hypnotic and all is well. Because since they came out, OTS is SHIT.

Oh and I thought Cobb has ATR again.

Forgot to mention it`s a Stratified stage 3 tune, designed for intake, hpfp, exhaust, and intercooler. You know, the one they send you after actually asking what mods you`re running and is mapped accordingly LOL. I`ll have them do the full tune in the spring when it`s time for a bigger turbo. I don`t have enough confidence in the built-in tunes to expect anything more than a very basic upgrade from stock parameters. I`ve been building performance cars longer than some of the guys on this forum have been alive, I suspect. The off-the-shelf tune practice has been around for close to 30 years (hypertech chips have been around since fuel injection was a new thing on production cars). And it was no 'tune in a can" that got my 300ZX to 600hp (15 years ago, by the way. God that makes me feel old).

Raider; that`s pretty wild about a stage 1 map doing 23psi! Bad news waiting to happen. What was the cause? Mine on the stage 2 93 map gets 16.5, which I was pretty happy about. Don`t know that I`d be comfortable running much more using a generic map. And Cobb does have ATR but they make you take the $150 "course" before you can get it. In and of itself I don`t have a problem with that, especially if the material is good and thorough. As for now, I will leave the tune in the hands of folks more seasoned in the specifics of the platform. As I get more familiar with it I`ll get more involved but for now, I`ll wrench on it all day long but my days of "yep, you get to learn how to fix it now that you broke it" are hopefully well behind me.

I see you are also a JBR fan. For me, it started with my 2016 3. I ordered their short shift plate and was just really impressed with the detail, down to their packaging. I`ve always gotten quick, intelligent, professional replies from them, which is not the experience I had with another company. I went on to purchase several of their products for that car. Now that it was kindly totaled recently I went straight to them for parts for the Speed 3. I have their short shift plate, but I`m going to swap that out for the actual shifter. I have their RSB on the car, and have the 3" intake arriving in a few days. I`ll be ordering their RMM in a week or so.

    @VoodooJef
I am curious - what are your thoughts on the 3" intake?
Did you ever order the RMM?

I dig the intake. I can`t say much about it as an isolated performance part as it was one of a few changes I made all at once, but it was a simple enough install. A little bit of wiggling and a few swears to get it all buttoned up but nothing unexpected. As far as the RMM, I got a killer deal on a Cobb that I just couldn`t turn down.

I'm only seeing this thread now. I have the Corksport SRI specific maps saved on my computer. I got them through Cobb customer support. I emailed them asking about the maps which were no longer available on their website, the service rep found copies from their archives and emailed the maps to me. I could have sent the maps to you, but anyway, you don't need them anymore :)

I've also availed of the Stratified Flash Tunes, though mine were only Stage 2 maps. I think the maps are great, but are pretty aggressive. Whenever I do the datalog reviews, I always get knock values close to or up to 2 degrees, at higher RPM. I guess this is one way to motivate the customer to get a full custom tune. I've felt uneasy about the possibility of 2 degrees of knock on the flash tunes, which is why I pursued a full custom tune with Dizzy Tuning.

Prior to my Freektune, I ran a couple of the free S-OTS maps from Strat; I liked how they drove just fine but also noticed some knock issues with the 93 octane versions, even though I always fill up with 93. Found myself running the 91 versions instead just to make sure I was safe.

Wow. My WOT KR values are typically zero. They`ll do like 1.1, 1.3 or so when I first lay into it but as soon as the initial throttle tip in is past it goes to zero. The only thing that`s even remotely noteworthy is my LTFT at idle, but that`s par for anyone running ethanol, and even then it`s only about 6% max, and zero under boost. The VDyno results were a tad higher than first estimated as well. Whatever they have done to their flash tune (not the OTS+ tune, mind you) to update them has worked favorably for my car. The flash tune, from what I can gather, is basically what would be a base map for a custom tune. It`s made specifically for the mods you`ve got and they are pretty clear about giving them an accurate list of current mods.

Truth be told, I`m not even sure they could get much more out of my current setup. I`m getting custom tune numbers at the wheels. My thoughts are that their database of tune maps for this platform is so wide and shares enough common consistencies that they can pretty much squeeze all but the last few hp out of common setups with little fine tuning. There will always be cars that respond differently, of course, but by and large they`ve done the work. I`ll definitely have them do my full tune when I get the BT in the spring.

I should add that most stations where I live offer 91 as their top tier, so it's entirely possible that the "93" I'm getting is actually somewhere between the two and not quite adequate enough for a generalized 93 map. Not faulting Strat at all; they know their shit and I'd definitely trust them to custom tune my car.

It's great if you're not getting any KR. I would still keep an eye on it though. When I had the Stage 2 e85 Flash Tune, I didn't have significant KR during my daily driving. But when I did the datalog to have them review it, I got KR close to 2 degrees. In their defense, they offered to tone down the map after suggesting adding a little more ethanol to my mix and datalogging again. At that point, Dizzy Tuning had a sale and I went with a custom tune. So I didn't find out what kind of changes they would have made. I'm also not knocking Stratified, I think they have been really helpful to the Mazdaspeed community. I'm just sharing my flash tune experiences.

I would say get a Stratified custom tune as soon as possible.

Spool up KR is not uncommon.

If you're me, KR during shifts isn't uncommon either. I'll find whats rattling around one day. If you have issues with CS parts or questions regarding your Stratified tune, definitely email both vendors. Both companies are very responsive and friendly to deal with.

I don`t have issues with CS parts....I don`t use them. LOL. In all sincerity, they do put a lot of effort into what they do and I recognize that. My stance on the company has nothing at all to do with their parts, but rather an exchange I had with them. That was between them and me and I`m not here to badmouth them. And I try to stay in touch with both JBR and Stratified as it`s their parts that my current tune revolves around. I like the idea that the Stratified folks will have some involvement in my entire upgrade path, from stock to wherever I end up (and the fact that I`ll be running a fairly uncommon turbo reinforces that).

So decided on that 29-frame for sure? Future proofing? Interested in something new? Like the fact it won't spool as fast for safety of rods? Other reasons? (If you wouldn't mind indulging my curiosity.)

ATR is available if you take their course. 100 bucks I think.

$150, I believe. There are a few threads about it, Loogy; Cobb is not in our collective good graces at the moment.
