Since the real shenanigans don`t start until tonight (NAMM convention in Anaheim, if anyone was wondering), I figured I`d borrow a buddy`s Windows laptop and run some numbers. Can`t say I`m at all unhappy with these figures, and this is just the baseline. Once spring hits I`ll have a GTX2971R in here. I actually overshot my goal by a little, and the torque number just blew me away (not that I doubt it, it`ll keep the tires barking through 4th gear if I let it). The mods: JBR 3" WidePath intake, Autotech HPFP, CPe TMIC, Magnaflow CBE, 3" test pipe. Stock DP, stock K04, Stratified making it all dance to the same song on ethanol. I won`t take tthese numbers as gospel, but with a smoothing of 3 I bet they`re pretty close. Gonna put it on the for real rollers when I get back home next week.

Don`t really want to push it any harder, even though everything is just about perfect in the logs. IDC isn`t even hitting 100, LTFT is 0 at WOT (and generally about 3.5 at idle), and timing hit a max of 18*. As a curious side note, there was literally ZERO impeller shaft play in the turbo when I did the intake. Not a wiggle. Here`s to it kicking ass until I get the new turbo and methanol going :-D vdyno11717.jpg

what does changing the cf to 1.01 do to the numbers? That's probably closer to what you'll see on a dynojet dyno

    326/379. Not unhappy either way.

Time for an update, and disclosure of the plan.

I`ve gotten pretty much everything the K04 has to offer. There may be a few HP left on the table here and there, but not enough to push the tune into that risk zone. Like a few others, I`m in the 330/380 range on a stratified E85 tune. I`m not unhappy with those numbers. The car runs strong and traction is an issue unless I drive with concentrated elegance. On to it...

I ordered the S4v2. The build will go in three phases: Phase one will be a basic turbo build. All the bolt ons, custom tune (obviously). Not really looking for more torque at this point, but certainly a few more HP. Looking for 380/380 with this setup.

Phase 2 will add methanol. A lot of it. Progressive spray. This stage will be to squeeze out the extra HP to get me to 425/385 (again, those are just goal numbers and by no means written in stone). Most likely stay at this point through the Texas summer as she`ll already be tackling intense heat and humidity. Onward...

Phase 3 will be adding rods and pistons and going for everything the S4v2 has to offer reliably. Quite possibly an aux port injection setup if it comes to that to hit the end goal of 485/435. Totally doable numbers without running the ragged edge of the tune. Not breaking any records there, but the car will be plenty fast and ultra fun to drive.

There will of course be updates and details along the way. I know the S4 isn`t a rare huffer, but not one as common as the S3 or the 2867. I know a lot of folks are interested since the V2 just came out, so maybe I can put up some results for the ones considering this turbo.
[doublepost=1487863433][/doublepost]Oh, and for sheer entertainment value, there`s this:

    newvdynoFeb.jpg

No, it wasn`t downhill. Not photoshopped, either. Yes, it is the result of an unintentional faux pas on my part. Anyone want to take a guess what it was? (other than Redline. We already had this conversation LOL)

TL;DR excited for you and a little bit of Speed 3 tuning-learned platform knowledge drop

Good info. Looking forward to the Dyno results. Just FYI, LTFTs are always 0 @ WOT because you transition from closed-loop fueling (around town, not too much throttle driving), to open-loop fueling (really getting into it), and your ECU uses the AFR readings from our wideband primary O2 sensor to adjust fueling to meet AFR targets on-the-fly. That's actually the tell-tale way to see in your logs when your car transitions from closed-loop (C/L) to open-loop (O/L) fueling. Sometimes it takes a moment or so after WOT. This slight delay can also be seen by when your APP shows full WOT.

Genpus have O/L fuel trimming too (an advantage over Genwons), but we don't have access to the tables, so we can't see the values. Genpus can adjust ~ +/-10% from your MAF curve on the fly in WOT conditions. That makes them especially easy to tune for lower levels of methanol, but once you start spraying a greater amount and go beyond that 20% overall window, the MAF curve will need re-scaled. Generally speaking, a D07/CM7 running 100% doesn't require tune adjustment if your starting MAF curve was really well dialed-in (not requiring a lot of O/L trimming already). At the CM10/D10 point on 100% WMI, it's pretty much guaranteed your MAF curve will need rescaled.

Exactly. Many people have found that VDyno 1.01 CF (when taken on a good, level road) is almost identical to a real Dynojet's reading. Mustangs and other dynos don't match up, but Dynojet is generaly accepted as the "gold standard" of "real" dynos for Speeds, just like 1.01 CF is accepted as the standard on VDyno for Speed 3s and 1.09 for Speed 6s.

When I self-tuned, I personally stopped at ~325/375 w/ 1.01 CF and smoothing of 3. I pushed my torque back further in the powerband than what you see above, though, because I was trying to be extra cautious.

LOL, nope. It was an unintentional "trick". The VDyno is calibrated to the Gen 2 gearing, but I`ve got a brand new-off-the-shelf Gen 1 tranny in mine, so it`s geared just a tad lower (making it rev just a tiny bit faster). VDyno doesn`t know that, so it just sees the car accelerating faster and figures it`s HP and TQ. My real numbers are on par with everyone else with a similar setup, roughly 330/380. It was fun to entertain the idea of making 420tq with the K04 though :-D

I knew something was up right away ;)
That would've been a Zoom Zoom Boom (on borrowed time) tune, and Stratified doesn't turn out those :)

Here's the new turbo. The inlet is comically bigger than the stock one

Minor update before the install on sunday:

Gave the engine a health checkup and everything is A-Ok. Timing chain is perfect, compression is 182/ 180/ 180/ 181. As the plan developed and different opportunities presented, the current phase is turbo install and spraying a substantial amount of methanol on top of the usual E85 mix. I`m using a progressive controller to keep from dumping a crapload of methanol at 8psi and still giving the engine enough to take some of the stress off of the injectors (and of course more power!). And FWIW, I`ll be catless as well as EGR deleted. I wasn`t planning on either, but the EGR thing is just a good idea, and the catless part...well, I couldn`t turn down the price on the downpipe.

Rough goal is 425hp/380tq. Now that the suspension is done that should be plenty to get me through summer before I start building the engine internals ;-)

Should have no problem hitting those goals. Congrats!

But why delete the EGR? Between being catless and having no EGR, you'll throw 3 codes, which will mean 3 not ready's when those codes are disabled with your AP. Why not do what I do: run with the EGR unplugged (its default position is closed), then when inspection time comes, flash a map with your EGR codes re-enabled? Good to go. All the benefits of a deleted EGR 99% of the time, and no inspection worries.

Otherwise, come inspection time you may be in trouble unless an inspector buddy does you a favor he can be fined $10k+ for doing... o.0

I do have inspection connections but I try not to implement those in that way. LOL I actually used to do state inspections years ago and failed a cop`s personal car once. He tried SO hard to get me to pass him.

And truthfully, regarding the EGR; getting the turbo in/out and the DP through the top is fairly painless with the EGR assembly out, so I figured if I`m pulling it off to do my turbo, might as well just slap the delete plate on there. Not like it takes more than 20 minutes to put back on.

Good to go, then. Connecting the pipe can be the biggest PITB. On the S3, we went EM out route for plenty of room. And I like the timesaving of plugging/unplugging (<1 minute) over doing the whole assembly, but whatever floats your boat :)

Turbo went in without a hitch. Ended up going with a catless downpipe and it`s pleasantly not loud, and no funky egg smell (and I got stuck in traffic for an hour on my way home from the shop). Not much to tell about the install, really. Went in exactly how a turbo swap should go. Took about 5 hours from start to finish with the DP and all of the little peripherals like MAP sensor and 3 port EBCS.

One thing I will disclose is that while running a 3" intake with the K04 was gravy, a little tight but otherwise painless, we ended up having to relocate the ECU using the same 3" intake. The S4 is enough bigger that it moved the whole assembly about 2 1/2" toward the driver`s side.

As far as performance, it sure feels strong. Very different curve than the K04, obviously. Just on the base map right now, sorting out the new turbo quirks. I`ll post up once I start getting some numbers, and of course to answer any questions anyone may have this far.

Soon you'll realize how nice it is to have a turbo that doesn't flatline your power @ ~ 5k, haha. It's amazing.
