JBR under car piping video.

I'm not concerned at all with spool/boost threshold. Based on dozens of logs, the data doesn't bear that out for me, so it's a non-issue. I'm moderately concerned about failure, specifically it happening at an inopportune time, like when I'm driving 5 hours down to San Antonio with my wife and daughter. It makes me feel better to know folks are running a good deal more than my 25 psi with no issues. And ultimately, I know JBR will take care of me. I don't want to be stranded, though.

 

Flyin' Miata has silicone piping like JBR:https://www.flyinmiata.com/na6-new-style-fm-intercooler-upgrade.html. They have also been around forever, and have a solid reputation. I did not see any posts about failures via Google, either. I did see they say to not stay in max boost for more than 30 seconds, But they also do not post any specific PSI limitations.

I think if running 30+ PSI, I probably myself would not run em, but that's me.

 

Something interesting, comparing the piping when spooled and not, looks like it shifts almost 2 inches, that's allot of room to account for rubbing.

 

Kind of hard to tell from that picture exactly because the whole car or the camera shifted a little too. Not much, but when you're looking at a small increment like that, it's bigger than you think.

Edit: The lines drawn aren't exactly straight either. I have this piping so I'm very interested in your findings. Just adding my .02. It obviously moves but I'm just commenting on the picture

 

Crappy work mouse. Anyone can compare the 2 with the video with snip and paint. Im sure I was off a bit. Not sure if it was mentioned but @Poon_Flavored_Tang will be testing the kit to 40psi soon so that should be spectacular or not. Also it should be noted that there are not many Miata's running over 20 psi of boost. Most are 6-18 psi.

 

If flying miata says no longer than 30 seconds then I'd do it for 1 min. That should cover longer than most straight runs on a track. Then, go back and do a change in psi over 15 min. I'd probably say from 10 psi to full boost and back again over and over. Try to simulate a road run.

 

My PSA: because of the expansion of the coldpipe on JBR's FMIC kit, I lost a brand-new breather filter, a Vibrant that was ~$13 on Amazon. I installed it a long time before this piping expansion issue was noted, but thought it'd be good to mention in here and to tag @JBR as an FYI. This breather filter was something I added to my DM catch can setup, but since it was close to the JBR cold piping, when the piping ballooned, it popped my brand-new filter right off, and I was out ~$13 or so:



I claim responsibility for this in the sense that I should've anticipated the piping ballooning and popping my breather filter right off. I had it clamped on very tightly, but 25psi worth of ballooning was more than enough to make my brand-new breather filter disappear after just a few WOT runs.

To be clear, I like the JBR piping. It's just that I figured this PSA may be helpful for other mid-turbo guys like me running check-valved VTA catch cans to help deal with excessive crankcase pressures.
