Absolutely nothing is readable. The Immobilizer can't talk to the ECU (Code 16), the versa link can't connect, the mobile programmer could not connect, and Mazda could not connect.

Edit: and the car came with a Cobb AP and has a custom tune flashed on it.

This Mazda tech guy said he would be more then willing to reprogram a Used ECU if it turned out that the ECU was bad. (I told him about this nightmare, and was sympathetic)

Sounds like something may be wrong with the CAN bus. I would need to connect directly to the car to troubleshoot. You need to probe all of the modules directly and see if you get a response. If nothing responds, there may be something wrong with the OBD-II port or a short in the CAN bus somewhere. ECUs don't fail while powered off.

Thanks Steve. I'm leaning towards a problem with CAN as well. I suppose I will dust off my old Oscilloscope (insert 1980's called and wants their scope back joke) and see if I can see a signal coming out of the ECU. Hopefully I'll be able to see something and can trace it to the problem. Looks like millimeter is just not going to cut it if it's a signal issue.

According to my drawing Blue with red stripe and brown with red stripe are in the wrong spots. The empty should be two spots down, below the brown red wire. See what I am getting at?

You should see CAN activity with KOEO.

Re pinned the two that were in error and bam immobilizer light quit flashing! Steve, you saved the day!

Now to bring the scope to the warehouse tomorrow in the event that the AP still won't talk to it. I have night hopes though. With any luck, I can finally get the AP uninstalled and install VT.

Yeah, yeah. Have your laugh. This one was totally my fault. I had to take the pins out of the connector to get the new (to me) harness through the small opening under the right side of the dash. I broke the old connector getting the old harness out. Did not want to break the good one.

    This is good news @Littleloogy!!

Seems like it's good news for black juan owners all around. Just received a message yesterday from the dude that sold me the engine. He's willing to refund me the whole amount and I don't have to bring the motor back to him. What a stand up guy!

So wait, you ended up getting a free motor? That is so awesome! Not many people get a second chance like that.

Yeah man! Thankfully. He's such a stand up guy!

He said it'd be too much trouble to get the motor back to him. It took me 4.5 hours of driving to pick up the motor. The thing is, I felt like a dink if I take the whole amount. He didn't give me just a bare block either. came with HPFP, injectors and harnesses still intact. Everyone I talked to tho said just take the $$. lol It's a blessing in disguise!

If he sold you a working motor that doesn't work I would consider everything else payment for your time.

Agreed. Kiwi, your time is of value. Don't discredit yourself. How much time was wasted with this engine?

Well 4 hours to pick up, 7 hours to get back home because of 4th of July traffic.

And about 4 weeks to button everything up, troubleshooting and wait time for parts and stuff. Also worked on it on the weekend. To be fair, I only have about 2-4 hours a night to work on the car after work but more on the weekend. I'm also doing this at my uncle's house.

I think the TB likely does it's own thing on power-on/down that just requires it to have power. Not sure though. I cat test that next week when I'm back in the office.

As for the voltages, you are probably right. I've never taken a multi-meter to any of my sensors.
