I was worried it was your original pan that was hitting the ground and then you went and made it stick out lower

Oh no, my splitter covers the pan so it takes all the brunt of hitting shit

Went to Gingerman again yesterday. Was happy that the weather was better that it was supposed to be.

Unfortunately I cut my day short after half the sessions. The cables that hold up the front of my splitter both broke, twice. After the second time I decided to run without the splitter for the rest of the day but I found oil on it when I pulled it which I traced back to the pan leaking where it seals up to the rear main. There was some oil in the bellhousing and I didn't want to chance it contaminating the clutch and ruining it so I called it a day.

Was glad I could get a bit more seat time with the RC1s on the car and I still have some work to do with braking later on them. I'm still seeing oil pressure drop on right handers and it's also dropping on acceleration but I never saw it go below 30psi so I think I'm going to need to give it some more testing before I can say I'm in the clear. Also coming out of turn three on power I'm getting some pretty nasty wheel hop so I've got some thinking to do about what could be causing that.

I'm going back to Gingerman again in two weeks so in the next two weeks I'll need to reseal the oil pan, make a new splitter, and throw in some new plugs.

Got my fire extinguisher setup installed today. Bought a 2.5lb bottle from H3R along with their billet tube mount. I'm super happy with where it's sitting, doesn't interfere with anything but very accessible.

Unfortunately I'm still fighting with this leaking turbo coolant line. I threw some new hose on along with a new spring clamp on the side that was leaking (top). Still leaking from the same side which bewilders me because I really had to fight the hose to get it on and the spring clamp is barely big enough to fit around the hose so it's definitely putting good tension on the hose. I might just have to double clamp it for the time being and hope that does the trick. Might change that over to an AN line in the future so I don't have to deal with this headache again.

Going back to Gingerman again on Saturday and it's supposed to rain pretty good so once again it looks like I'll be on my street tires :(

Have you considered using a liquid gasket material at the leaky turbo spot? If you can wait until it sets up, and arent twisting the line too much when getting it on, it might be enough to seal once you add a clamp.

At the speeds you are going on the track, would blocking off the area between the radiator and its frame (or inter-cooler and frame) produce a noticeable benefit?

The second clamp sealed it up so yay for the time being. Still going to move to an AN line in the future. Chasing leaks is no fun, especially when it's between run sessions.

The rad is already sealed fairly nicely to the core support from the factory. As for the intercooler it can't really be moved backwards because of its shape and size. When I get the car retuned on speed density I'll have a good idea of what my post IC temps are and if they're hot I'll start brainstorming. For the time being it works.

Edit: totally spoke too soon. Second clamp on that line only caused the other turbo line to leak. Time to AN all the lines!

that fire extinguisher mount looks like a really nice piece.

i would make airflow through the front a near term project, it will benifit all aspects of the car, bats, coolant temp, aerodynamics and high speed handling.

basically seal that shit up tighter than a fish pussy

I'm sure I'll get around to it. All my of big concerns right now are safety (still need to buy some SFI shoes and a suit) and reliability stuff. Ideally it's nice to make it so things don't break but that's a bit optimistic so the second best option is to make them easy to fix.

    1) that pin for the fire extinguisher looks like a pain in the Dick to pull for release in time of emergency.

    2) how hot is your coolant getting? On other cars I've had, coolant leaks have sprung up from hot spots in the cooling system.

The pin has some small detent balls on the end of it that keep it from being able to fall out but it's pretty easy to pull. Plus the strap is huge so it's quick to grab.

I'm not sure how hot it's getting as I haven't hooked my laptop up to it in the longest time but the factory water gauge in the car does a decent job (it's not a dummy switch) and I haven't had the car overheat on me. That's not to say there aren't hotspots running much hotter and seeing as they're coming right off the turbo I'd bet they are. I just spent the past hour looking at the line routings and filling a shopping cart with everything I need to turn both lines into AN and it's only going to run me $85 so I'm probably going to pull the trigger on that and get it done next week.

In other news I went back to Gingerman yesterday. Was really happy with the progress I made as a driver. I finally feel like my line is solid through 95% of the track and I spent a lot of time figuring out my braking zones and pushing deeper and deeper. Morning was raining and soaking but around 2pm it started drying up. Got one session in on the slicks and it started overheating about 3/4 of the way through the session. Fortunately it started overheating right before the pits so I was able to pull off before it got really hot. Got it in and it was puking out the overflow so I'm pretty sure the headgasket is fried again. Let it cool off and just like last time, it ran fine, only overheating if it's beat on, only pushes coolant under boost. Drove it almost 2 hours home without the temp needle budging at all. Literally exactly the same situation as last year.

I've already started pulling apart the front end, going to pull the engine out the front of the car this time. Without a lift I don't want to go out the bottom and coming out the top is a huge pain in the ass as I found out last time. I got the lines and fittings in for the turbo coolant lines so I'm going to get them routed properly before pulling the engine. Since I have to get fittings welded on the tstat housing and the water crossover pipe this weekend I probably won't have the engine out until early next week. Going to get the block and head decked this time to cover all my bases. Also will give me a chance to see how the rod bearings are faring, crossing my fingers for good news. I didn't see oil pressure dropping much below 40psi yesterday and I was moving pretty quickly.

I love how easy this car is to work on :)

How close does that radiator sit to your turbo?

Pretty close. Like a little over an 1". It's not really an issue with heat, the stock radiator is pretty damn thick. I'm more concerned about keeping oil temps in check. I was seeing temps up to 250F yesterday and I've already got a larger cooler.

Hahaha I was waiting for you. Too tied up in this thing to go back now.

I'm thinking I'm going to finish up some small stuff and put the car back together. Going to check spark plugs and see if I see any coolant on them, refill and burp the living hell out of the system to be 100% sure it's not air in the system before I go ripping everything apart.

Please put a turbo blanket and heat shields on that thing. My OCD is killing me.

The long term plan was to get the turbine housing and O2 housing ceramic coated. I don't know of anyone who makes a blanket that fits the stock frame stuff and they usually get brittle and flake apart after a while. Especially when heated to all hell for extended periods of time.

Do you have to worry about running for extended periods of time?

I consider 20 minutes of WOT somewhat extended. And every track day is 6-8 sessions of 20 minutes.

My biggest concern with heat right now is oil temp. On monday I was seeing 250F so I may need to consider a larger oil cooler in the future. I know a few guys run fans on their coolers but I not sure that'd make a huge difference at speed.

May I point you back to the "seal that shit up tighter than a fish pussy" comment above. You have free dP around that radiator (free airflow to cool) that you arent using.

edit: and by free I mean like $5 at Home Depot to buy some nice pipe insulation.
