I would say that is a serious shift of the dash board away from the pillar. Below is driver's side gap.

Followed by passenger side gap (what gap?).

I've never attempted to take off or adjust the dash at this point.

Only thing that I can think of that would be related is hitting a massive pot hole (Water filled pothole the size of New Jersey coming off the highway off ramp- destroyed everything on the driver's side axle, strut, end link and plastics). I do not recall seeing this at the time so maybe fast forward a few years and vibrations moved it? Anyone else seen this? Ideas to re-seat it?

I've seen the dashboard removal process list and I think I would rather bathe with some pissed off weasels but maybe I'm wrong.

The dashboard is kind of like intricate origami. You have to take literally like everything off just to take anything off. I would check that pillar trim first. It’s only held in by two tiny little tabs. If it pops out, or wasn’t seated right to begin with, it literally won’t go back in unless you take off the whole piece and align it properly again.

To clarify: the two tabs slot into the dash in the long corner by the windshield. There are also 2 clips that clip into the A pillar and a tether to keep it attached to the pillar if the side curtain airbag deploys. Pull out the door trim and pull off the pillar. Line up and slot the tabs into the holes in the dash and clip it back to the pillar. There really is no gap on either side if they’re installed properly. I doubt your dash shifted.

Haven't had a chance to take a look at the pillar cover just yet - not sure why I didn't think of that other than I would assume the pillar cover can only get set so close to the pillar. Easiest explanation is usually the correct one.

There's a TSB / warranty thing about dashboards being stupid. @Raider has the number I think.

That is for the dash popping up. May be under the plan.

Not sure it's year specific, but yes. Take it to Mazda and get a new dash.

Yes, dashboards are available for the TSB. It's all gen2's. Got my 2012 fixed a few months ago thanks to @Raider
