So my sister has a MS3 that she loves so much but had a problem with the engine I’m not 100% on what happened but the engine is done for we are looking to get a “new” used engine with around 60-80k miles. Where should I look to find one? What should I look out for when looking at engines. If anyone is doing a part out or anything and has a decent engine they are getting rid of that would be greatly appreciated. We are going to need all the help we can. We know someone that will help us out the motor in but we just need to find a motor first. I know that the MZR 2.3’s from the speed 3’s are not easy to find so like I said any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

The price difference between a good running used engine and a rebuilt motor is less than $2000. its not worth the gamble on a used motor.

most people here only buy used motors from a friend or as a starting point for a rebuild.

Where are you located? I have a perfectly running spare engine. I used the block from a donor car for my built engine. If you’re close enough to me, I can hook you up and maybe even do the swap.

If the motor did not grenade you can likely rebuild it and it would be cheaper but that is a lot of work if you are not up to the task. While you are in there you could do some forged internals. This is all a slippery slope though and a lot of work. If you can find a low mile motor you can trust that will def be cheaper then tearing it all down and buying all new gaskets etc etc to rebuild it.

With you folks being in Washington, it might not be a bad idea to pick up a Corksport stage 1 long block

^ This. The spare engine I have is a good one, but the cost and hassle of shipping an engine across the country is stupid. I’ve seen the Corksport build video and Vincent is meticulous AF. You could literally just drive there and pick it up, saving shipping entirely.

If you’re still interested, however, my spare has 93k miles and ran like a champ. I feel like it’s just taking up space, as my new engine is pretty bullet proof, and I seriously doubt I’ll ever actually use it.

Corksport includes shipping in the cost of motors to lower 48.

How much would you want to sell that engine for?
