True dat. Did you ever try to get a quote from a shop to do all the work you’re doing?

Nope, a lot of the things I am doing I don't see a shop touching and a big part of this is that I enjoy the work and get to spend some time working with my hands vs sitting behind a PC all day.

Once you get it cracked open it is not crazy complicated and things seem to only go back one way. I took tons of pictures, the hard part now will be pressing off some of the stuff to get to 2nd gear.

    Update:

Well this sucked, @CMajor was a huge help in coaching me through this and keeping me from taking my own life "it wasn't that bad" Anyways here we go. I started tearing down the stack so I could get to 2nd gear which happens to be at the almost very bottom and I ran into a few snags.

2nd is in Red, its really a lot less confusing once you inspect it all in person.

The Pliers I mentioned earlier worked well for the first clip and I was able to use a 3 jaw bearing puller to pull the first bearing off. This was a little sketchy as you can not get into the inner part of the bearing where you are supposed to pull it from but it came off without too much force and does not appear to be messed up.

Once that is off you can slide the synchro out and get to the next clip which is too wide for the pliers I bought #thanksmazda I had to use needle nose pliers in revers to get it out and that worked pretty well but was sketchy,
    [IMG]

You have to careful when working with the synchros as they each have 3 little bearing balls that are spring loaded and if the collar moves too far they fly in all directions. You can see the springs in this pic. You can also see the super wide clip :-(
    [IMG]

This next part is the worst. There is not enough room between these two gears. The lower one is 2nd I think that one above it is 4th. You have to do some wild L bracket shit with clamps and swearing to get it out but I did. I bought 1/8th inch L bracket and used a grinder to file it down enough to get it in there. Then I took it to the press. Thanks again @CMajor for this advice. This is the worst part of the whole thing by far.

I had to get pretty creative with clamps and shit. This is sketchy but it worked.

    SUCCESS!!!!

Now you can take another clip out which the pliers do work for and 2nd slides out. Here is a side by side of 2nd , you can see where the synchro engages the gear the old one is toast. I will start re-assembling it soon which is much easier. My brass pad forks will be here soon too.
    Old Right New Left

I also got my new clutch line going. It will be going directly from the Master Cylinder hard line "1/4" to a 3an line which will then be fed into a Speed6 Slave Cyl. The line is double flared "inverted flare" *I ACTUALLY AM USING THE SUPRA SLAVE NOW AS THE 6 ONE SEEMS TO OVER THROW THE PRESSURE PLATE*

I made a mount for it so it does not flex the hard line and is pretty close to the OG location.

Looks like you’re getting it man good work! Must take a lot of time and patience to do that. I have the patience but not nearly enough time or the right place to do that kind of work unfortunately lol :(

Luckily for me I have decent garage space so I can just go out the door and work on stuff as I get time. Not nearly as much time as I would like and some late nights for sure but I keep plugging away at it.

    Tiny Update:

I decided to look at 2nd gear synchro while I was in there. It is also in ROUGH shape. This synchro goes from first to second and the side that engages first looks brand new but the 2nd side is pretty rounded off. 55$ later and a new one is on the way. I decided to buy axle seals while I was there to save on shipping as now is the time to do those as well. Tasca has once again proved to have the best pricing.

If you look at the inner area of the synchro and the lower gear "1st" it is in great shape. Once the brass forks and the new synchro is in I will be re-assembling it.

Will you need a break in period for all the new trans parts once everything is together?

Nope, I will lube it up with some unicorn piss and then fill it like normal once it is in the car. There is a magnet in the trans so anything that gets worn down will get caught there.

    Tiny Update:

Tasca just shipped the synchro collar, took them forever but nbd. I decided to run some wires while I wait and to get the BSD kit installed.

I ran some extra wires into the cabin plus wotbox and cleaned up existing wires for oil pressure/temp and water temp.

I will be terminating all the ends to a plug which will make for a cleaner install and removal.

My shift forks with brass pads also arrived. They look great and am excited to get the transmission back together once tasca sends the parts.

I went to clean my oil pan so I could install the BSD kit and it went pretty well. I used citrus spray and some engine de-greaser.

I also realized too late that these two were living in the rocks and I think the chemicals killed them :( I moved them once I saw them but it was too late. They are not poisonous but can bite and they don't do webs , just hunt and live in rocks. I looked them up after the fact.

BSD installed and with red-loctite. I also cleaned up all the gasket material and wire wheeled the dip stick spout as it was rusty and gross.

No way man. Spiders kill all the other bugs that are annoying as fuck. Spiders are the only insects I won’t smash. Worms, too. But not sure those are considered an insect. Good for lawns!
