Well guys I am now at about 1,200 miles on my built motor and have finally done my first compression test on the car. Everything feels great and got the same results as @JohnnyTightlips basically. 150’s across basically but I used a rent-a-tool from autozone.

The pics aren’t the best and my engine bay is a mess but consistent results nonetheless. I will probably buy a quality compression tester in the near future to satisfy my curiosity on what the true compression actually is. Hopefully ill have more updates and more frequently soon guys!

With buying a new house ill be moving right before Christmas basically, and then it will be game time on my CST4 turbo install along with some much needed other goodies!

That rent-a-tool is probably more accurate than my harbor freight one! LOL. Keep the updates coming!
BTW does the head need to be worked as well on the engine build? IE, valves re-seated and springs replaced for a power goal of 350-400?

Definitely need to do some work and update, and to answer the head question.. it never hurts to have them cleaned up and seats cleaned too! As far as a goal of 400 or so no headwork is needed at all. I would just recommend having it all checked by your builder to insure it’s all in good shape and possibly deck the head and block surfaces for a good seal on the head gasket. Stock studs are also good up in the high 400’s. I think @Sho didn’t have his head gasket blow until like 500hp on stock studs and even ran it at that power for a good while before it happened.

Oh yea, head and deck were going to be flattened for sure, was just hoping I didn't need to spend additional money on the top end to get it back on the road. It will have OEM main and head bolts. Bolts are easy enough to change for studs later on if I want to bump up my rookie numbers

Stock valve train and head bolts will plenty fine for 350-400

**** Warning **** A decent bit of reading this time around!!!

Well guys and girls it’s about that time of year again....tax time.. lol I happen to be able to spend a little bit on the speed 6 again so figured I would update on my choice status.

I am planning as of now (unless I decide differently between now and a month or so) to buy some parts off of Chris Singer. He has a 6 puck clutch and fw, a bnr s4 v2, and a jbr 3.5” intake. That will be close to my budget to spend other than my tune and I would most likely only install the intake and turbo and then run my current clutch for a bit until it gave up the ghost from higher hp levels.

If I chose a different route I would probably do more small things I have been meaning to do like getting a new key fob (since my car never came with one and I have used the key for the past 3yrs) fix the rear fender well rust, tint the front windows to match the rest of the tint on the car, and some other things to make the car nicer but not faster.

Sorry this is so long, but it brings me to my conclusion. Simply put..... BNR S4 install with my 3.5 bar map sensor JBR 3.5” intake and all the goods along with a DM RMM or all the other odds and ends things along with trying to possibly dress up the engine bay and fix a few things? Help me out guys..

I should also note that either way I will be paying for a tune and will be at the least a 93 tune. Possibly E30 as well and I have a higher mileage CST4 from @mangosmoothie which I can most definitely rock for a while along with the smaller stuff. I will just be dealing with worrying I don’t have a spare clutch

Is the 6 puck used? If so, I've said it before and I'll say it a thousand more times. That job fucking sucks and if I were you, I'd get a new one and not lose any life on that clutch. 6 pucks are already not going to last as long as a regular disk, so don't make yourself have to do that job again sometime soon.

After I built my car, I just left my Luk + Fidanza on since they were still basically new. While I was tuning as I got right above 400tq it was just out of it's league and I obliterated that thing quick. I should've just put the 6puck on when I was assembling everything and I wouldn't have had to do that install again.

Now on to your actual question.

Go fast stuff is nice, but it's really nice to get some of that quality of life stuff knocked out too. You're gonna have to make that call, but the more you put that stuff off, the more down into the rabbit hole you're gonna be on performance shit and let me tell you, those expenses never stop when you start making more power haha.

I would just slap on the CST4, get a 3 or 3.5" intake, and get it tuned. Then tidy up the rest of the car.

You aren't going to get a crazy hp number but you'll make decent enough power on 93, and you'll be able to get as aggressive as your clutch/fuel will allow you to.

Your v dynos never showed over like 230 whp. You're going to make 300+ whp and hold it til 7k. It's going to feel like a TOTALLY different car even with these "basic" mods.

100% this, get some decent power down with reliability right now. Once you start getting into wild numbers you're going to be spending lots. I'd get that CTS4 to the ragged edge if I was you.

Thanks for the advice guys it really helps me out hearing others’ advice. I guess I will probably go ahead and run with the CST4. It is an awesome turbo from what I hear and I have already ported and polished the IWG. Plus Casey was nice enough to darn near give me the turbo, ebcs, and 3.5 bar map.

@VashEXE the turbo and clutch both had less than 5k miles and the car was on stock fuel, but yes used still yet. I think that I am going to heed your clutch advice though as I know it is going to blow doing the install of it. I will probably hold off on the clutch for now, run the cst4 and get a decent intake or make one. Then get it tuned and have some fun.

I may possibly still buy @SharksInSpace’s meth kit as I have already spoke to him about purchasing it. That will also help my car stay happy and give extra fueling in the future as well. Not to mention it will keep things clean inside which is a huge plus too!

Thanks guys I can’t wait to get this stuff going! I am going to post a datalog of a pull the other night that I ran. I fixed a bunch of much needed boost leaks and air leaks around my maf and such. I am hitting more boost and the car is running great! My LTFT’s seem high at idle still for some reason tho and don’t know why. My VD stopped working and won’t let me re-download for some reason so hopefully one of my hombres on here can load it up and see what it says.

Meth is pretty cheap but I have never been a fan of its reliability. I would invest in PI but if you really want power now, meth will get you there cheaper you just can't safely rely on it for tons of power and really be diligent about making sure it's working. PI these days for your power goals is fairly simple. Damond ST kit, Intercooler routing "you can weld" , ebay 2200cc injectors, ebay ptfe line 6an, aem pump, fuel from oem line to passenger side of PI , Driver Side PI to HPFP done no return needed. @SharksInSpace and @_Mazdarati both run PI like that and @Sho did as well for 100 years

Problem for me is the expense of it not it being simple or difficult. I could most definitely get it all set up just don’t have the money. I honestly am not a fan of having my throttle body facing the ground and all that either. I know that manifold is cheaper and all but not as easy when it comes to working on everything. Guess I avoid crawling around on the floor as much as possible after the gravel driveway engine build haha

Yeah, it's totally up to you just my two cents. Plenty of people have had success with meth I'm just not a fan of making big power on it.

I don’t honestly want to but for now it is what it is. The only other option is driving a 2hr round trip to run a corn blend lol

Does anyone know who does headlights on FB? I’m not on there really so don’t have a clue who it is but heard a guy does projector conversions and lens swaps for new ones and stuff for like $250 or something. I am needing mine fixed and figured I might as well go with them instead of doing it myself and screwing something up lol
