    Hello all,

Recently picked up a 09 Mazdaspeed 3 with 140k for my new project.

It had a p2006 error which I was able to fix by bending the metal on the runner actuator button. I gave it a fluid change all around but am still getting this ticking noise when the RPMs are 2k+

At first I thought it was a bad throw out bearing but it occurs when the clutch is disengaged and I rev the engine. Might have to pull the head if it’s a lifter.

    blew a rod today..

does anyone know if a 2.3L non-turbo short block would work as a replacement?

The 2.5 block can be used as a cheap alternative to the MZR, but it hasn't been proven yet for higher power.

The 2.5 is, multiple people have done it. It's just not proven beyond stock mzr block power levels. If budget is a necessity, that's the way to go; just know that it will likely limit what you can ultimately do with the build.

This fixed my problem with p2006 on a 2008 speed 3 I originally thought it was the Variable Tumble Control Solenoid (VTCS). This about a 10 minute repair and the part is inexpensive. Hope this helps.

Same issue would exist with the 2.3. Tap the oil pan.

Picked up a replacement L3-VDT with 103k for a good price last night. Going to open her up and take a further look today.

Does anyone know the transmission bolt size?

I haven’t taken out the bad motor yet so I can’t use those bolts to put on to a engine stand.

looks like you're missing a few things on that block before it's "ready"
