    Hey guys, first time posting.

I have a 2007 mazdaspeed 3 with just over 50k miles. Was taking a buddy of mine on a ride yesterday and we did a hard 1-2 pull. (No launch just a hard shift between 1st and 2nd gear). When I shifted into second there was a loud bang and I’ve lost all gears. No power in any gear. Unfortunately I believe my send it mentality grenaded my transmission.

My question is would you guys rebuild or replace the transmission? And if it’s a rebuild any suggestions on brands/parts to look into?

    Thanks guys

Could certainly rebuild it as long as the case isn't busted. OEM parts are good, of you're in there is look into getting yourself some brass shift fork pads as a nice little upgrade.

Depending on price of rebuild a used tranny may be cheaper

Before you buy a transmission, have you checked your shifter cables?

They have a habit of developing slack and sometimes pop off the assemblies. Check the trans and in-cabin shifter.

    I
I checked my shifter cable in the engine bay and it was still good. Have not checked the actual shifter assembly. Although when I have the car running and attempted to put in gear and drive I can hear audible clanking near the transmission. Leads me to believe it’s the trans but I’ll definitely check cables.
    Thank you!

As an update, I started the car today to do some more listening. At idle it’s makes this tapping sound (tap tap tap... pause... tap tap tap... pause... tap tap tap.) the taps are fast and the pause is about a half second intervals. Again engine idles perfect and revs perfect. Sound is coming from front half of the trans.

Clutch in or out? The two piece flywheel can be loud on its own

The Noise audible when the clutch is in or out. Also audible clunking/chattering noise when attempting to “drive” the car. Ie put it in gear with clutch in and slowly releasing clutch while applying throttle.
