Oil pressure sensor ... install without leaks

I was curious what techniques people here have used to eliminate leaks from the oil pressure sensor.

The service manual says to use silicone sealant but it isn’t clear how much. I saw a video of someone using teflon tape—although strangely he doesn’t appear to put the pressure sensor all of the way in (you can see just after 1:40 that it is out maybe 1/4”):

Any information people can share?

 

It's a tapered fitting it won't go in all the way. Teflon tape should be plenty adequate.

Mine actually does go in all of the way... Is that not normal?

As Awafrican said. Pressure sensor is a taper. When I installed, used a semi set sealant. For situation where the taper thread is buggered from over torque use a hard set thread sealant. Both threads must be clean & give it time to set up well.

 

FWIW I've been using loctite 545 for hydraulic and pneumatic fittings over the past year without really any failures seems to hold up well to gasoline, oil, methanol, etc.

I used the ‘Form-A-Gasket’ today and will start the car tomorrow. Not sure if I applied enough or too much, and I didn’t put the sensor in all of the way (left it out about 1/8”). We’ll see if it stops the leak!

 

Was it tight? Don't leave it out of it's not snug

 

If it doesn't fix it you may want to replace the sensor. Mine was leaking from the sensor itself, not the threads.

So my re-attempt at stopping the leak didn’t fully work—it’s dripping so not an actual problem (and the engine oil level isn’t going down), but obviously I should replace it so I ordered one.

that's sealant already on the threads, you *should* be good without more

 

I decided to order the part for the screw-on filter conversion. So I’ll wait to install the sensor until I actually do the conversion and hope the leak doesn’t get worse
