    had a bit of weekend.

it started with me wanting to install my oil cooler...which of course the sandwich plate has gone missing. cant find it anywhere so thats VERY ANNOYING.

    anyways,
this weekend i did the rear endlinks as they were indeed making noise. OEM fomoco endlinks lol, 87k miles on them. they dont owe me anything.

next up tackle my leaking oil feed. this thing has been pissing for weeks now. its bad. what a pain to get at but it wasnt as bad as i expected.
    64626731357__B43913AD-E2CC-48EF-A4C5-C61DCFC8DA0C.JPG

i changed both washers top and bottom. started the car and it was pissing. like bad. ok. tightened it up more, still leaked but much less...ok. tightened the ever living hell out of it. stays dry now!

so slow day at the shop. fixing oil feed and endlinks. time to go home.

leaving to shop is about 15 minutes of side streets then the highway. took my time getting to the highway. once on the on ramp i always give it the beans...well this time....

SMOKE SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN. oh fuck. welp. lets go wot again...
    SMOKE SCREEEEEENNNNNNN AGAIN!!. Well fuck

smoke was coming from under the hood from under the car from everywhere
i pulled over as soon as i could, since the car was running and driving fine and this is what i had the pleasure of being met with,
    64643933406__5960499C-E7E3-4C11-9CB1-1EC173E0FD4B.JPG
i basically started crying immediately and started planning out my next steps. maybe panicked too soon. i cleaned this shit up best i could, and went at it. i did about 40 wot pulls on the way home, 3-4, 2-3-4, ALL of 4th to 7500rpm.
no problem. car was fine. 0 issues. what im thinking happened and only because i remember so clearly but i checked my oil before leaving the shop. some oil dripped off the dip stick around the dip stick tube holder and on the JMF there is material there and it was oily so after putting the stick back in (or maybe not putting the stick back) i wiped up the oil around the dip stick tube, my guess i lifted the dip stick out a bit with the cloth and that was that.

welp, i did many many pulls on sunday after cleaning up as much of the oil as i could. got the car super hot(it was 99f outsitde) and oil was just dripping down everywhere lol. this sucks.
Car was happy though. i did my usual array of stupid moron pulls giving it literally ALL OF IT. car was fine. didnt care. making good power even in the heat.

    so now what?
well...i spoke to Matt of damond, and ive got a new catch can check valve coming as i suspect mine is starting to fail(noticed it hissing during a boost leak test). ive also got the damond PCV plate on route, and a single vented can. Matt went over everything on the phone with me basically giving me the run down on why i should have at least ONE vent somewhere, specially being on a built motor. so i will be running the below setup going forward,
    upload_2021-6-28_13-49-57.png

i also need a transmission as my 5th gear no longer likes to shift from 4th at 7500rpm...or really anyting over 4000rpm. itll go, but crunch crunch. guess when i install my 6 puck again ill swap in my spare trans and have this one rebuilt. ah well. how it goes i guess. 5+ years of literally getting the beans everyday and some stuff is now tired. im not mad, its just annoying everything is failing this year lol. damn

What short shift plate do you have and have you adjusted the linkage. I had the same problem going from second to third at redline. Switching from an original jbr shift plate to damond solved the problem

Oem shift plate since the car was brand new. I’ve removed the oem shift weight and installed jbr shifter bushings. Car also has damond trans mount. That’s about it for transmission/shift mods. Also has fresh trans fluid. Part of my spring maintenance.

I would still fiddle with the linkage before you commit to swapping the trans

Yea maybe you’re right. I’ve noticed it’s a little loosey goosey these days. I have no idea how to adjust it though. Will have to take a look

Haha well I think I’m out for the 2021 season. My final setback. Last straw maybe. It looks like my tial 38mm has shit itself. I can press on the top of it and the whole fucking gate moves up. Try to tighten all the little bolts that hold the top of the wg down...none of them will go tight except 2. 2021 is not my year.

If you look at the video when I’m pressing up on the gate the whole fucking thing is moving. Something cracked or broken I think. The loose bolts are just another fuck you to me

Received a reply from tial today. I sent them a nice email and included my video.

they are willing to either send me whatever parts I need to rebuild it, or have me send them the whole gate and they’ll repair it. I’m definitely gonna take the parts and put it back together myself to save time. I guess this is a pretty good solution.

I also found my email from edge. I bought this thing April 15/2019. It’s not that old.

Sad that we are all surprised a manufacturer is standing behind their products. Good for them

I will attach emails here but honestly, this guy is going above and beyond. His final email to me just now read something like “take it apart. Disassemble it if you are comfortable or send it to us. We will replace whatever is damaged”. He sent me a pdf on the exploded view of the WG, with all part numbers listed. Every single piece is replaceable and serviceable. Thats amazing lol.

we decided I will pull the gate tomorrow and disassemble it. I’ll take pictures/videos and document everything. Tial will send me whatever is needed to get the gate back to like new functioning condition. I’m actually impressed here. These guys are killing it.

Now for some root cause analysis. This is from tial and his idea on my failure,

tials view is that my dump tube just hanging freely is what caused this. The vibration of the dump tube shook the gate apart. I mean it’s possible for sure but how many people run this shit like so? My dump tube is probably one of the shorter ones on this platform. He has suggested I build a brace for jt as apparently at tial when they see “screamer pipes” with no support they all cringe together apparently.

Tbh most companies tell you to die and eat shit. So this is helping bring some minor faith in humanity back to me.

I run my EWG dump tube without a brace but it does rest somewhat against the downpipe and I haven't had issues of the WG coming loose. That is awesome they are standing by their product. For the price you pay for their products it feels even better to have the company back it up.

This was my initial concern. I thought I would need to buy a new waste gate which is why I was ready to call it quits for the year. But these guys seem to be the real deal. It’s more then just paying the big bucks because you don’t want your shit to fail, but when it does fail getting this kinda support? Yea. That’s nice. That’s where my money went I guess.

Also nice though to know they are fully serviceable if you are out of warranty

I thought it was a throw away piece but being fully serviceable is very nice. Guess I’ll have this thing for years to come lol. We will know the extent of the damage by tomorrow night when I take this shit apart

Did some things today. Was Canada day so I had the day off.

had some fun taking apart my waste gate this morning for tial. I thought only the lower part was damaged due to stripped threads but he pointed out a lot of things that were showing signs of failure. Tial is sending me a rebuild care package. Awesome
    83276C05-8DE1-4130-B124-F4D2CCBB4DBF.jpeg
apparently I’ve been missing an internal oring for sometime and that would’ve been giving me some boost control issues. Maybe slow spool up or something cause I never had over boost issues until recently. The tial tech noticed that in the photos I sent. He also noticed the diaphragm is starting to fail as he could see orange pieces in the wg dome and lower portion in the photos I sent him. Man definitely knows his product. Most companies would probably not have caught that.

anyways next up time to go do some work on the car.

What a fucking gigantic pain in the dick this is. Less then half a thread at time. Then the Allen key drops or I drop the wrench and gotta set it all up again. Fuck me lol
    511A0C65-0575-4556-BA90-345506F6ECD0.jpeg

new hotness. The oem pcv plate is like a cheap plastic piece of shit? Idk. The Damond piece is badass though. Fuck is it nice. And the fittings he includes. So sweet.
    4136DD64-466A-4487-97B3-FB8C88D17072.jpeg

Catch cans going passenger side strut tower. Matt told me to make sure I mount it higher up. Apparently this is ideal for vented cans? I didn’t know
    2D15BE2C-0D29-4B90-99B4-F437955F5789.jpeg

Included push lock hose and fittings. Very nice
    CCA3C554-F965-480B-B265-3721B402CA4C.jpeg

This is where I left it. I’m off Monday so I’ll finish up Sunday/Monday. Gotta make a little bracket for the can and finish making/routing my hoses then reassembly and that’s it! Wait for my waste gate parts I guess lol.
