Didn't end up going. $250 for the day and my fuel lines weren't finished yet, so I bailed on it. I really want to get some quick runs in though. I got the gopro mount right behind my steering wheel for the tach/speedo and got my helmet and everything too, so I'm ready for something. Just trying to figure out what.

Nice! Keep us posted on the NatorAZ page and I'll get my ass out of the house at the next event. Now I wonder if they'll cancel that Cars and Coffee at LeMars on 3/29...

Yeah, I don't know if that's gonna be happening after all of this crap, but we'll see. I'm gonna be working that morning, but could come out afterwards if it's not quarantined off lol.

The car is torn apart again, but not for anything bad. A while back I was rear ended by some dumbass downtown. The damage wasn't bad, but it caused a bunch of spider cracking on my rear bumper and bent it out of shape a bit. All in all, it wasn't super noticeable, but I knew it was there. I ended up driving over to California with the wife one weekend and picked up a fresh rear bumper to replace it, but I needed to paint it and whatnot to get it nice and shiny.

Corona shit happened and I started working from home, but never really got the time to mess with it. Last week, a buddy of mine brought up that he had painter in town that did good work and I decided to hit him up. Right now I've got the rear bumper, front bumper, hood, and a handful of trim pieces with him to get resprayed. Should take around a week he said, so once I get those back, all of the nasty rock chips and rear end damage will be gone.

I'm getting the lower half of the rear bumper, the smile, badges, oem baby lip, and the fog light housings sprayed in black mica to clean up the look of the car a bit. The rings around the fog lights will be liquid silver like the rest of the car. I'm really hoping it comes out well and I can finally be happy with how the car looks again. These AZ streets aren't nice to the fronts of vehicles...

A local did something similar to what I'm doing with his car and I really like the look of it. He went with just a regular gloss black on his. I think the oem black mica will look real nice.

    Hello,

Would you mind sharing the full log file of this run or something similar? I am also self tuned and would like to check a few things there. I am considering an EFR turbo and your results looks very good. Thanks!

Hey man, I don't mind sending you a log to check out. One thing I will say is that this turbo is definitely out of it's efficiency range at the top end and you can see that with my boost drop off at the end of the powerband. The turbo feels great though and I'm happy with where it's at though. The EFR was a bit of a pain in the ass to get set up particularly with the internal wastegate and the actuator that you need to use. I cover that in my thread, but if I didn't have FullRace here in town, I probably would've had a lot harder of a time with it since they're pretty terrible on phone/online stuff. If I were to do it all again I'd probably go one size up and go external gate just because the actuator for the internal gate on these things already nearly contacts the firewall with the 7163.

Food for thought. Make sure you make a build thread when you decide what you're going to do!

So I'm still waiting for the parts to come back from the painter. He says Tuesday currently. In the mean time I've been ricing up the car a bit to pretty it up for all of the freshly painted parts.

The first thing I attacked was the foglights. They were so demolished by rocks that I had to do something. I tried buffing them and wet sanding them, but since they're glass that didn't really do anything. I ended up doing a few wet coats of 2k clear on them and I think the results really speak for themselves.

After that the rice bug really bit me, so I decided to clean up the black door/window trim that was all faded and nasty. Back to black and all of those products really don't work and end up making everything nasty and oily, so I ended up using a cutting compound followed by a polishing compound on it. It really cleaned it up and it doesn't have that nasty oily finish. You can see the difference between the polished up front door and the trim up top on the rear door that hadn't been done yet. I'm really happy with how they came out, this has been something that has bugged me for a while now.

One last treat I got for when the stuff comes back from the painter is some heatshielding stuff. I know that the heat from my exhaust manifold did not help any of the fading and paint cracking on my hood, so when it all comes back fresh, I'm gonna lay some of this out on the inside to keep it as protected as possible.

Expect more ricey updates next week. I'm excited to get the car all cleaned up again!

I had to deal with a LOT of heat with my stock flange full race manifold, and that was even with the "ceramic coat."

Have you considered wrapping the manifold? It dropped temps significantly for me.

I have, but I really don't want to pull the thing off. I've considered just wrapping what I can get to as well, but it's a bit of a pain in the ass to get to some of the areas. This is good info though. I've also considered making a heat shield to go over the whole thing too.

After a neighborhood cruise using a probe pyrometer my manifold dropped about 100*F. I have to dig up the exact numbers, my garage is still packed up from a move.

I used DEI 2" wide titanium wrap. The titanium wrap is thinner, a little better about NOT retaining moisture, more flexible so much easier install, but just as good at holding temp as the old school stuff you have to soak overnight.

I wrapped mine in the engine bay. I thought the ceramic coat would have been enough but nope! It's a bitch to do in the engine bay, but not impossible so just have patience. I cut between 4-6ft strips so I wouldn't have to drag the whole roll around.

Luckily here in Az I don't have to worry about moisture much. I was looking at the DEI titanium stuff rather than fiberglass stuff since that seems real nasty to isntall. Thanks for the heads up man!

So I still haven't decided on my heat shielding solution yet for the exhaust manifold. I used the adhesive heat shielding all over my TMIC and shroud setup as well as all of the area under the scoop that does not have any sort of heat shielding at all. That stuff really lays down nicely and is really easy to get a quality finish with it. I'm not sure that it'll do anything, but I think for sure getting it on the parts of the TMIC that are right next to my exhaust manifold cannot hurt.

I finally got the car all back together today. It looks so nice and clean again. The paint definitely isn't perfect, but for what I paid, it's really a good job. The painter ended up not using the Black Mica I provided because of some issues with it not working like he expected it to, so he ended up just doing a gloss black, which still looks fantastic. Without further ado, here are some pics:

    Foglight housings and the badges:

More foglight housings. The rings are color matched to the car now:
    20200529_211509.jpg

A shot of the shiny smile with my grubby fingerprints all over it:
    20200529_211514.jpg

After assembling all of the front bumper pieces:
    20200530_125049.jpg

The one place the painter actually used the Black Mica was in the housing around the front emblem and I honestly really like the contrast with the glossy black badge:
    20200530_125113.jpg

Some sun shots. The bumper looks way off on the driver's side, but that's just the light:
    20200530_160838.jpg

    Big smiley pic:
    20200530_160856.jpg

Showing off the new gloss black stuff:
    20200530_160904.jpg

Booty. The painter didn't do a great job with the line here, but it's about as good as my plastidip line was before. The gloss really looks so nice on the rear.
    20200530_160921 (2).jpg

All in all, for $1300 I cannot be happier. The whole front of the car was just peppered with rock chips before to the point that I wouldn't even bother wiping it down after washes and stuff, so to finally have it all nice and shiny again is amazing. I'll need to do some buffing on adjacent panels to try to get the clear somewhere near these super shiny pieces that they're now next to, so that'll be my next project.

I also got the rear Mazdaspeed 3 badge done in the same black, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna put it back on yet. I think I kind of like the look of it with just the Mazda M, but I have it just in case I decide I want to put it back on.

Your car look so clean. my speed got in an accident and the body shop painted the grille black mica instead of the stock color. I liked it better than stock. Nice to see another one with a black grille. The fog light trim also looks great gloss black.

I also like that full race license plate frame. It's the only thing giving an inkling of what's under the hood, which is how I like it.

Any issues with your fueling setup?

Nope. Lots of daily driving, racing, quarter mile stuff, highway driving and mountain runs and not a single issue with fueling. I'm very happy with this setup. The only real pain in the ass with this is whenever you have to change out the plugs or pull the TMIC for whatever reason, you have to unhook the fuel lines which is a little bit of a mess. Other than that I really don't have any complaints with this setup.

thats great to hear, seeing that I can't find any website on speed solutions I'm going to see if I have a shop fab it up for me.

Yeah, Chris with Speed Solutions only does his stuff through facebook which is kind of a pain. You can reach out to him there, but I'm sure another fab shop could come up with something similar if you show them the pics of what I have. Depending on what your goals are, an FMIC and a more standard kit might be more preferable to you honestly. FMIC makes general maintenance stuff really easy which is nice. The super fast response of a TMIC + EFR turbo is cool, but honestly there are other setups with FMICs and Precision turbos on here that are pretty responsive and just generally nice setups too. Here in AZ the 118* summers are brutal and not having an FMIC in front of the radiator is a really nice perk of this setup. It all just depends on what you're looking to accomplish with your build.

Alright boys, it's been a good run.

I sold the car a week or so ago now. Emissions and the little issues here and there were just hard to deal with with my work schedule. It was a great car and probably the cleanest one with the mileage it was at (172k) haha.

I'm gonna go ahead and lock the thread now to put this build to rest. Thanks for all of your guys' input and help with my build, I wouldn't have been able to get to where I was without everybody's help.

@Raider feel free to lock this up!
