I’ve heard of the Zeknova tires. I’m sure they’re ok. There’s a few off brands I know people run with good success.

As others have noted, don’t coast!!!! Lol. Be on power or on brakes!! Even a little throttle is better then coasting. I noticed a good difference in lap times by changing that.

Also driving with an instructor is a huge benefit. If you’re able to take advantage of as much coaching as you can. It does help

I normally try to run with an instructor for the first 2 runs and then go on my own.

The coasting is a bad habit I’ve developed and probably need to start messing around with left foot braking and/or balancing throttle input.

The Zeknovas are a great compromise in my opinion especially for someone who doesn’t want to drop “big money” on a set of race tires.

I’ve run re71 and the grip is insane but due to cost I’m on hankook rs4 this year. That said, I’ve gone faster on my rs4 so far. More drive mod this year. Super grippy tires like re71 hide driver error well so you don’t learn.

Yea I was bad for coasting as well. Few guys pointed it out in my videos in my thread. Changing that makes a huge huge difference.

Wrapped up another AutoX event this past Saturday and here are my reflections and thoughts:

1: This course was a fast one! Not as technical as the last 2 I've done. The set up was built to go pretty much flat out with longer sweeping turns and gates setup where the line allowed you to basically go straight.

    2. I still have a stupid coasting problem when going through turns.

    3. I walked this course 4 times before the event started and this was the first time I did a full event without an instructor guiding me ( I felt confident that I knew the course layout). Although I did not get lost on course or hit any cones I feel like an instructor could have potentially been the last bit I needed to nail down the racing line.

All in all it was a fun time and I think I'm at least improving each event.
***the 6th run may have been my attempt of a full send run and got a bit squirrely***

    Tips and Tricks always welcome.

Looks like a fun course. Need to shake the coasting habit lol that’s for sure. Also, you can almost always benefit from an instructor. Last weekend I had an event at a new track. Drove in the intermediate group since I have track driving experienc. Never ever driven that track before. First thing I did was ask to go for a lap with an instructor and I’m glad I did. What a difference it makes. Looks like you’re having some real fun though!

Also take a look in my thread, there’s some good input in there from another member who’s been driving for a long time. It may be helpful to you also!

It totally was out of my mind to see if someone would ride with me lol. I felt comfortable with the course layout to the point where I knew everything was but forgot they could help with the racing line as well.

And if you have a problem coasting they can help with throttle, steering and braking.

This past Saturday was the final AutoX with the group I normally run with.

A little change of plans with this event, one of the participants suggested doing a "Daily Driver Shootout". So instead of running the Speed I ran my 2013 3 2.5 sedan.

Here is the killer setup I have for the car:
    Stock suspension
    Stock Exhaust
    215/45/17 500tw tires
    CS SRI
    5 Speed Automatic trans

    Yeah pretty wild I know.

It was fun just messing around with the car. Didn't expect too much from it but I was impressed with how well it held up for the most part.
As always here's a video of my "fastest" run... and I ride along I did in a Tesla Model 3 Performance.

That’s awesome. I’ve considered taking my wife’s Chevy Sonic autocrossing before. Car is sooo tall though.

What kind of time did the Tesla set?

I believe the Tesla got 3rd in PAX something like a 50 second lap time vs. my lap time of a 61 [emoji23]

    Hello All,

Sorry to bring up an older thread but I also race autocross up here in Canada and recently came across Zeknova tires. I currently run Hankook RS4 tires for autocross (& Daily) which have been great (not the best in the rain) and this year I was going to switch it up to RE71R However I'm looking at the Zeknova tires and wondering for those of you who have experience with them how do they compare to Hankook RS4 Tires & The RE71R? Are they close? Similar grip? Or are they more of a indy 500 level type of tire?

    Thanks for the info.

I haven’t had any experience with the other tires to give you a good idea. The Zeknovas seem to get the job done with grip in the corners for me.

Which tires have you had experience with other then the Zeknovas? And how do you find them compared to the others?

    Thanks

I’ve always raced on cheaper/no name tires lol. On the Speed I’ve also raced on Accelera 651s which I’d say were probably comparable to the Zeknovas if not equal in performance. We did a daily driver shootout where I ran my 3 sedan with Sentury UHP all seasons which held up fine with a lower output car.

It's been a while since I posted in here.

    I started a YouTube Channel:
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqfdADhu6AZ5-EM16yIMexg

Doing something a little different and doing a course guide type of video before just showing the run. I'm still no expert and still very much learning.

Feel free to like and sub to the channel to follow this years AutoX season.

Been following your YouTube channel for a bit and didn't realize you were on here. Keep up the good work, I enjoy the videos!

Question for you though, what FMIC are you using and what are your BATs like during events? I've only done two events in my speed 3 so far, but my BATs with my CS TMIC are insane lol. Trying to get an idea of what sort of temps I'd be looking at when I switch to a front mount.

Thanks for the support! I run a TR8 with the CX racing piping kit. I honestly haven't paid attention to BATs/IATs yet but I can most definitely monitor them for the next event I have this Saturday! If I'm not mistaken you should be looking somewhere between 10-15 degrees over ambient temp when you go FMIC. I've been seeing others in my class with forced induction with sprayers for their intercoolers between runs. I personally haven't noticed any decrease in performance as I get more runs in during a heat.

A TR8 and the cx piping is probably what I'll be going with, so I'm definitely interested in what your temps are if you can look at them this coming event! My BATs on the street vs autocrossing are wildly different lol. The TMIC heat soaks bad, and after the 1st run of the day, I basically start a run around 145 or so, and by the end, I'm looking at BATs around 200 and the car is pulling power.

If you can take a look at what your BATs are both before and after say your 2nd or 3rd run once everything has had a chance to heat soak (if it's going to heat soak), that would be some great data!

Edit: If you remember and are willing, if you can log a run that would be even better! :)

Yeah no worries I can take a couple of logs before, during and after. I really only use the car for AutoX now. I'll drive it on the weekends occasionally but if I do end up taking it out on the street I can also update you about what everyday temps look like as well.
