Yeah I know how it goes been helping. Buddy with his full rebuild....engine in now, we repainted the engine bay, cleaned every dam bolt going over everything 3 times making it pretty etc... point is I get it, and sometimes life gets in the way, just busting your balls, progress is progress :)

The answer is always Miata! So you are going to attempt to modify the stock subframe? You could always get a mountless subframe from V8R and make your own mounting location.

So not to derail the thread, however since the topic was brought up I figured I would give my two cents, in regards to the DISI in a Miata, I don't think that is as farfetched as one might think. Rokusek and I were actually talking about this the other day, I believe you could use the mountless subframe I mentioned above from V8 Roadster, get the DISI mounted on the subframe (or even potentially source a subframe and modify from NC, not sure how well that would work) you could then use a variety of different transmissions, the NC trans, a Ford Ranger trans, or have an adapter plate made for an RX7 TII transmission which already has a PPF solution, that gets the engine and trans into the car which is half the battle. You could use a full standalone for it, or you could use the ECU from a PU. If one can put a V8 into a Miata, I don't see how anything else would not fit for any reason, hell there are K swapped Miatas, Honda V6 motors in Miatas, like I said, the answer is always Miata :)

Best of luck with everything, I look forward to progress!

Ahh the DISI miata discussion... we've talked about this so much. Can't really add much to what @Downmented said, as he is pretty spot on as he stated all we have talked about and discovered. It is on fact something I plan on looking into more and possibly take on myself in the near future.

swapping the DISI in doesnt make sense to me, the NC already has a MZR, with port injection, i think it would be easier to turbo the NA motor than deal with getting the ECU to work. Also the MS3 ECU wont work without the instrument cluster

I think it is more of a novelty factor to be honest, Paul brought it up, I simply tried to figure out the best way to make it happen. I also don't think it makes much sense, but it is possible that's for sure. And yea, I forgot about the instrument cluster, that would fit relatively nicely into the dash of the NA.

Everyone says the MZR swap cant be done or that its too difficult. I see the cluster not being a terrible issue. If they can make the 6.2 Hellcat engine standalone with all the gobbly goo electrical crap from a Challenger/Charger that "required for it to run" removed, then an L3-VDT MZR could be made standalone as @Rokusek and @Downmented said with a little homework. Every other engine swap has already been thought of for a Yata, why not that?

... Sorry for the thread derailment @Castillo817, progress looks good, looking forward to more!

Standalone, man. If you're going to do an engine swap like this anyways, get a Haltech or another standalone. Problem solved. Added benefit is many of them support Flexfuel sensors and can adjust timing/boost progressively based on your specific ethanol ratio.

Haha yea sorry for the derailment lol.
    But since OP approves...

The ecu and cluster is easy to swap. And as @Downmented stated, for me it's more of. Novelty. A DISI miata... how dope would that be... and if, and I mean IF it was possible to make it awd... my blood starts flowing just thinking about it. Awd DISI miata with stock power. Basic mods and a tune would make it absolutely insane to drive.

I would like to put a DISI into an rx-8 personally, make the world beating super car mazda should have.

same company makes the best chassis and best motor at the same time and doesnt bolt them together, complete and utter shame.

plus rx-8's are really cheap right now

You know... I never even would have thought of that... Its brilliant. To me the rx8 has only had good looks for me. never gave a shit about them due to lack of performance.

DISI swapped RX8 with an NC Miata trans would be ideal

I'm thinking maybe the Miata box would have too short gears that couldn't handle the MZR DISI power?
