So I just picked up with 07cx-7 with a check engine light on, it's a P0012. It's had a ton of work done to it regarding this DTC. Any help and input would be great.

It looks like it had a ton of work due to a broken timing chain. And that's a code regarding timing. So you might need to have timing set correctly, or the CPS might be really dirty or not lined up, etc. You're not really giving much information so it's hard to say.

You could have bought a built engine almost for what you paid to "fix" that one. Damn.

The issue I see is the rape for the work done. By a euro repair shop. 4 years ago. Honestly get it to a mazda dealer. Thinking the timing is off. That shop could have not used the timing tools to hold the unmarked cams in place or something. But that's the next step.

I'll never understand why some people do that. Let me take my Japanese car to a European shop.......

I saw the horrors people suffered when attempting on their own without the proper equipment, taken to inept mechanics too. When my chain went out, I decided to let the dealer do it, and brought it the Oem hardware I got from Edge.

I just boughy the vehicle and the guy gave me all the receipts. The chain is super sloppy, I'll be installing one this weekend. Thanks for all the input.

I didn't look, but if they didn't install a new VVT actuator, you need to get one.

Get the vvt, chain, all the stuff. And get a dealer to verify timing.

Just an update, yesterday I installed a new timing chain with the cam phaser and cleared the DTC, as of 35 miles later no more check engine light. All monitors have passed and now time to smog. Thanks for the guidance and advice.
