Has anyone delt with a leaking oem rear main seal after a rebuild? Is there any specific tool or just rtv sealant to install it correctly? Thanks.

What part is leaking? Is it around the crank seal (hope not or it will fuck the clutches couch) or by the oil pan? The RMS should of came with a preinstalled white cup that serves as the "installation tool" . It needs to be installed BEFORE the oil pan... so to fix that you need to pull the pan.

My first rear main leaked on my built motor because it was not installed correctly using the SST that comes with the new rear main seal. It did wipe out the clutch from oil getting on it.

It needs to be Installed with the included SST using these steps

It can be installed with the oil pan attached

Ok so how did you know it was leaking in the first place?
Edit: ok so the rms has a lip and if the oil pan is installed and sticking out the lip wont let the rms sit flush. So redoing the pan may be necessary. This is why i ask where it was leaking from.

I'm assuming you're talking to me?

I knew the rear main was leaking because oil was dripping out the weep hole when the car was parked.

As far as how I know it was installed. Improperly... This pic should explain lol FB_IMG_1530322921115.jpg

A new rear main has been installed, it no longer leeks at the weep hole between the trans and pan

Ok well what happened was originally a crack in the bell housing and then they saw the rms was leaking after the trans was replaced. Motor only has a couple hundred miles so it was probably installed incorrectly obviously.

Replaced trans with used one and fixed the trans leak and also replaced the
rms because of installer error. Crack is where the little black dot is in the raised up area of the bell housing. Crazy small crack.

    Hello mates

I am sorry I need to revive this thread as I am having the same issue, I bought the seal from Mazda in the USA despite I live in Australia, and it came without the alignment tool, I was told it does not come with the alignment tool anymore, however without the alignment tool and just sliding the seal on will result that the brown seal lip pointing outward away from the crank but It has to be pointing inward toward the crank hence the need for the alignment tool, now I am desperate to get that tool (this white plastic piece), can you advise please as some people told me that you can install it with the lip pointing outward but I am scared to death to do that then get shocked with a leaking seal again.

    Cheers

    Hello mate

I would really appreciate if you sell me the alignment tool, that white plastic thingy, I live in Australia and would be happy to pay you the price you want for the tool and the shipping cost to Sydney Australia

    Cheers

That tool was thrown in the trash the day of the install back in June of 2018. At that time, all rear main seals ordered from mazda came with the special service tool. So I threw it away

Thanks mate. I expected so. You will not be able to get the seal with the tool anymore, I am trying to buy the tool from Ford for about A$130.00, expensive but I have no other option. Cheers
