@Enki Do you mean the time between it opening at an early 6psi to 20psi would show no difference compared to no cutout? or is it negligible only on the EFR or all turbos?

 

Well, by Vash's own account, you can tell that opening after the turbo makes boost isn't really doing anything for him. My comment on the EFR is that Vash has likely the fastest spooling 60 lbs flow turbo that's ever been made; it spools faster than the smaller turbo he used to have even.

I mean, just look at the vdyno; he's making 30 PSI at 3500 RPM and he's doing it in probably around 6-700 RPM window. It's insane.

 

Fucking around at lunch with a buddy. This cutout is good times. Brapping all over unsuspecting people trying to pass you is pretty hilarious.

 

How quickly that turbo lights up is insane. 30psi at/right before 3500 has to feel insane haha.

I just realized I never posted my dyno day results in my thread, so here we go.

I set up a dyno day at a local race shop for the NATOR guys, but NATOR AZ sucks and barely anybody was going to show up, so the shop decided to give us an hour or two and then open the dyno day up to the public, which I was perfectly ok with. People were getting pretty butthurt with the numbers they were getting since they were reading pretty low, but I'm happy with how consistent the car was and how many cars I got to compare with. I ended up putting down a super consistent 514whp/460wtq over all of my pulls and only two cars beat my numbers during the night. A Camaro 1LE with FBO (526whp) and a racecar STI that was nearly in the 9s per the owner (680whp). I call that a victory. There were tons of other cars at the dyno day and I was definitely surprised at some of the stuff I beat. And now we play the "who's car is slower than mine game":

I don't think they believed my 500+whp estimate because initially the car almost tore itself off of the dyno. They freaked out and tightened it down right after that

It's been a while since I've posted here. Car's been running great, but it's hot as hell out here in Phoenix, so I haven't been beating on it too much.

My car has started overheating a bit at stop lights and my fan isn't kicking on even when AC is on, which is weird. Generally the fan would kick on at 214* for me and would bounce between 208-214* when it's hot as fuck in stop and go traffic. The other day it crept up to nearly 235* and no fan. The AC got warm and I pulled over to check it all out. Unplugged the connectors and plugged them back in and the fan kicked on and the car cooled right back down to 208*. Ordered a new fan controller and it's in the mailbox right now, so I'll be swapping that out. There's also a little relay with a single green wire that I'm going to try to grab at my local PullAPart tomorrow, just to make sure I've got everything I need. I'm also considering a manual fan switch just in case I ever need to crank it on manually, but I'm not really sure what my options are yet.

Either way, I'll follow up after I get the fan controller swapped. I'd really like to get a dual fan setup or something for some better cooling. These Phoenix summers are brutal.

So I went ahead and replaced the fan controller today with the used one I got from FMW. I went ahead and sprayed contact cleaner on all of the connectors just to make sure everything was nice and clean. After getting everything mounted up I noticed that neither side of the fan controller connectors felt like it was clicking in all the way on the new fan controller. I went ahead and tested with my original one and it was the same thing.

I'm wondering if it wasn't my fan controller that was failing, but the connectors being a little flakey and dried out. Either way, I got it all put back together with the new (to me) fan controller and verified everything worked as expected. I gave the connectors on either side of the fan controller a dab of superglue just to make sure everything stays where it's supposed to be, but not so much that I can't get it apart next time I have to fuck around with this.

Either way, if you're thinking your fan controller is dead, doublecheck the connectors first. They looked like they were all good on mine, but I imagine they could wiggle loose ever so slightly and mess up the connection until it rattled around the right way to fix it again. I'm not going to bother running with my old fan controller anymore to verify whether it was the connectors or not. I'd rather not overheat in this goddamn 118* heat.

 

One other thing I forgot to note. Don't buy the TheSpeedline.com hood strut kit for genpu. It's been less than 5 months and one of the struts have already failed and slammed my hood shut while I was working on the car. Just bite the bullet and buy the Redline kit if you're looking for a set.

 

I have them for my juan and they held the hood up for 8 months while I worked on the car lol. I know @SharksInSpace had one go bad but he was able to buy another on amazon that fit and was cheap.

 

Yep, one of the struts on my juan kit went out disappointingly quickly but I amazon'd a much higher quality set of replacements for like $20-25, which I think I documented in my original install/review thread. Overall, it was still cheaper or the same price than the lowest end Redline kit and I always appreciated not having to drill/rivet to install.

I actually picked up what appears to be the same kit that thespeedline sells off of ebay for I think $35 for the genpu when I bought it from Jef; so far so good and I intend to again just replace the struts if/when these go out. I just so much prefer the bolt-in installation that for me, personally, it's a no contest option.

 

You have a link to the struts you bought on Amazon? I don't see the link in the original thread.

I measured out the original speedline struts to find correct length and ball size (lol) connector for the juan kit; i imagine the struts between the two kits are likely the same and only the brackets are generation specific?

 

It's been a while since I've updated, so I figured I'd just post some stuff here.

My Aeroquip AQP fuel lines have all gotten really dried out and are in serious need of replacing. I'm waiting on some fittings from Fragola to get it all put together with PTFE hose.

I also just got my new tires mounted yesterday. I got a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3s (that's a mouthful). So far, I'm really happy with the grip and the car feels way better. The car tracks super straight now and I can even hook up in 3rd again. We'll see how they hold up on DD duty. I was really trying to find a nice middleground between the PS4S and something that just is not dailyable like the R888R, so I hope these are the ones. The PS4S is a 300tw tire and the R888R is 100tw. The Supercar 3s are 220, so stickier than my PSS that I had originally, but hopefully I'll get some decent life out of them.

Other than that, not a ton is going down. I might be going to a half mile event next weekend or I might just go to Import Faceoff, we'll see what I'm feeling like later in the week.

 

So, I got all of my fuel lines swapped out for PTFE stuff and it's holding up well so far. We'll see how it handles AZ temps and ethanol over a year or two, but I'd imagine it will hold up a lot better.

I put my hoses together myself, but ended up having some issues with a couple of the shorter hoses that I was putting together. After fucking up a fitting, I decided I wasn't going to tear up any more fragola bits, so I hit up ANplumbing.com . They sell pre-assembled PTFE hose with different AN fittings and they sell by the inch, so you can get just about anything you need.

Honestly, they were cheaper than buying the hose/fittings for me, so it was a no brainer to just get it all premade. I did make a couple of my own and I'm glad I know how to do that, but any other lines, I'll just buy from these guys.

The tires are holding up well so far and I had to drive in some pretty nasty rain last week. It wasn't as sketchy as I thought it'd be, so all in all I'm pretty happy with them so far.
