CEL P2006 indicates variable tumble control system (VTCS) shutter valve stuck closed. This seems to be a common issue for anyone that removes their intake manifold. There is a small plastic piece that triggers this sensor either closed or open. This part only comes with a new manifold and I was not about to shell out more money for something so small.

Now for the fix it is ridiculously easy and FREE!

To gain access to the area we need, you must first remove the engine cover. It is easier still if you remove the TMIC, and Intake, but this is not strictly necessary.

Now you will be looking at a mounting plate with two wire harness on them. To improve access, you can disconnect these two harnesses, however I have been able to access everything with long-handled screwdrivers/ratchets with extensions and pliers.

There are two bolts that hold this plate in place both are 8mm, one is easily seen on top:

The second is located on the right side of the head you can see here:

Now with the plate removed you will be able to see the broken plastic piece:

The actuator moves this the VTCS sensor, which is held on by two phillips head screws. We want to remove the top one.

Once removed you will want to bend the entire bracket/sensor forward, it should be pretty easy to bend. You want it to sit right on top of the actuator so it pushes the plunger in:

Now when ever the actuator is pushed in the sensor is allowed to travel outwards:

Install in reverse order and enjoy the results[IMG]

No worries! I figure that some of the info on the other forum really could be better served by being here now.

After cleaning my valves and doing the corksport seals this is the one thing that went wrong and I was pretty bummed about--so glad the OP posted this. Such a great solution, thanks!!!

Sorry for bringing back an old thread but i got a p2004 variable tumble control system shutter valve stuck open, my question is does this fix will solve this problem?
i read of dirty intake manifold, bad wiring connection and also a friend told me that it could be the solenoid.Any light of what could possibly be? this procedure was posted for code p2006 but don’t know if it does apply. Thanks in advance for any help.
