Hey guys, so I did my pivot shaft seal, and after putting everything back together. It wont really go into first gear for the most part. I have a video so you can see what I am talking about. Of course I would be the only person who works on one part of the car and another part of the car doesnt want to work.

Anything binding near shift cable or fully seated in the bracket or hitting the shifter arm/weight?

Have you tried adjusting the shifter

You had to pull the whole thing to do the seal and that is literally what selects each gear so if something is off it won't go into gear right. I would also check if any of the shift cables are binding on anything. Not sure you can put the pivot shaft stuff in backwards or anything. Did you forget to put hat pin back in or the bolt on the front of the trans?

So I had by brother come over to help assist before I made the video. As he was shifting through the gears, I didnt see any binding nor was the shifter or weights hitting anything. I have not adjusted the shifted as I dont see why if everything is put back together like it was. Also, I believe the whole assembly can go in one way, so you cant really put it wrong, because it wont go in unless its correct. And yes I put the pin back in on the front.

I would pull the assembly out and double check it , something is going on for sure. I rebuilt my trans and did not run into this issue. Yes it probably only goes in one way but that is the only thing that could causing this problem. Doesn't take super long to pull the worst part is messing with the RTV.

Can you take a video of what the shifter is doing in the bay when you are trying to row the gears?

So I have removed and installed it about 3 times with no change. I can try and get a video later today.

One arm controls up and down of the assembly which seems to be the one you are having issues with. The other does the back and forth. If you pull the shift cables off of it you should be able to do it pretty easily by hand.

    Up 5th/6th gear
    Middle 3rd/4th Gear
    Down 1st/2nd Gear
    Bottomed Out , Reverse

Sorry for the delay.....So the first two shifts are me trying to go into 1st but it goes into third, the next shifts you can see me going from 2nd to 1st no issues and then I will try again to go into first with my putting some elbow grease on pushing the shifter to the left and then up. The next two are again trying to go into first but going into 3re. Then finally I am going 2and to first.

Take off that short throw and see how it does. It looks like it is binding. The up and down action does not look right. It should be moving a lot more. Did you check the if the shifter cables are aligned right near the tmm? Also check the cables on the shifter in the car. You could also take the cables off the trans side and do it by hand and see if it binds at all.

So apparently there is a bushing thing that is completely cracked at the bottom of the shifter that is causing not to go into first gear.

Sucks that it's such a small thing that is going to probably require replacing the whole assembly

So it did lower where the nob should be but I have a stratified extendor so I like that its still somewhat higher. It also sits a little bit more forward so I have to sit a little bit more forward so I can reach the shifter but the throws feel sooooo much shorter like I barely need to move it to go into gear.

Also, I think because its used, it doesn't move as smooth as the sto k one. It feels much stiffer to move it left or right vs the stock. But I need to look into if that is normal or if I can adjust that. I guess since the website no longer exists I can't find and manuals about it.

Since I replaced the whole assembly, it did fix the issue.
