    Hola everyone!

So I like to keep a little diary on all my vehicles, and now that I don't have the Fiesta anymore (someone t-boned me), I think it's time to show off my new baby!

Meet my new to me 2014 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 full cab.
    IMG_20200711_142155.jpg

It wasn't a steal of a deal or anything, but Tacomas almost literally never are good deals. It's got about 120k on the clock and honestly, I'd love to put another 200k on her. My dad always had a Tacoma when I was a kid and up until a few years ago, so the Tacomas have always had a special place in my heart. It's really nice coming from a Fiesta with almost zero interior storage, to a larger vehicle that seems to have more compartments and cubbies than I can think to fill.

Can't say I have any crazy plans for it, other than neatening it up a bit. I think the PO snapped the antenna off so I have a new antenna base coming in the mail, and I'll probably spruce up the interior with some LED dome lights.

I'm definitely excited to have a vehicle I can go on camping trips, Home Depot runs, and random new motorcycle trips with. My doggie has no issues jumping into the back and her head looks great sticking out the window.

Anyway, stay tuned for some Taco fun times!

Some wheels, kc lights, roll bar, you can rock the Marty McFly. Tacomas are insane. 120k and still getting nearly 20 grand or more down here!

Once I find some sweet mud that we can bog together

Also, @Maisonvi time to plan out my Ken Knob for this ole girl. Unfortunately, the auto shifter's thread is only 8x1.25 so none of my existing knobs will fit!

Big exciting update! Jk just a little maintenance.

I figured over these next few weeks I'd just take care of some little odds and ends on the Taco so here's item #1. Installed a K&N air filter! I am literally just "upgrading" to this since they're washable and I know of no negatives for switching out to one of them.

    Nice little before/after shot -
    IMG_20200717_134237.jpg

And this sexy stock 4.0 engine bay -

    IMG_20200717_134119.jpg

I have the replacement antenna base and sparkplugs waiting on a time where I get an hour or so to devote to wrenching. The plugs shouldn't be bad but I have to remove the passenger side fender flare to get to the antenna so I am not really excited to do that. I found replacement plastic clips for the fender in case I break any, and I believe they'll be here tomorrow.

I also found that the truck is already wired for an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and I happen to have stolen the one from my 08 MS3 GT so I'll probably wire that in this weekend while I'm out working. Might be cool to have a compass again and at least one creature comfort in this pretty basic vehicle.

All done! Had to wait until some house chores were done but the mirror went in without fuss.

    Old lameness:
    IMG_20200717_210513.jpg

    New hotness:
    IMG_20200717_210523.jpg

So that's the auto dimming mirror with a compass from my 08.5 GT MS3.

Since that wiring is keyed, I might tap into it again for my dash cam as well. I don't think it'll be too much amperage for the 20g wire.. idk honestly, anyone have input on that matter? I've seen people on forums wire radars into the same harness so I assume it should be beefy enough.

Next up on the mods list was a little maintenance item. Apparently, a common issue with higher mile cars is a small filter on the secondary air pump (whatever that is) failing. Once it fails, you get little chunks of foam in more expensive bits of your engine which isn't good! All one must do it remove the little foam filter, and replace it with a new filter made by Uni.

    New breather:

Inside of the existing filter housing showing foam. Mine looks okay but I already spent the $13 so screw it.
    IMG_20200928_184603.jpg

All done (just needed to add the cover back on, which I did):
    IMG_20200928_184857.jpg

I don't think it'll do anything noticeable at all, but hey it apparently solves a potential future issue.

Brought the Tacoma into the 21st century last night. Since my FiST had Android Auto and a pretty techy package to it, the Tacoma definitely felt like it was lacking in that department. After some casual searching for replacement headunits, I had decided the Sony XAV-AX7000 really fit my needs, but was out of my budget comfort zone ($599 MSRP). It supported a backup cam, Android Auto, and has a pretty beefy 4x45w RMS amplifier in it which greatly surpasses the norm of ~20w. I thought it would be nice since it would support a system with upgraded speakers as well and I likely would never need a separate amp (I am not a super picky audiophile).

Anywho, found one for $450 on a Tacoma FB page that included all the harnesses and the dash mount so I sprung for it. Here it is installed:
    IMG_20201117_090125.jpg

Unfortunately, there's no PNP harness for converting the backup cam so that took a little fudging in the shed and I'm pretty proud of my job. There were 4 wires in a harness I had to wire into the harness/a RCA cable and obviously that like 24G or whatever wire wouldn't have cut it. -

    A little update here...

I've had my eyes on the OEM Tacoma TRD Off-Road wheels for a while now and I finally bought a set! My tires were starting to show some cracks from age and this set popped up locally with ~3,000mi on them. A lot of guys seem to buy new trucks and immediately modify them so why not take advantage of that.

My original tire size was a 245/75r16 and this brings me to a 265/70r16. Same height but 20mm wider.

    IMG_20210612_210224.jpg

    IMG_20210615_200220.jpg

I feel like they seriously improve the looks of the truck and the added width just makes her look a bit meaner, which I love.
