    Hi guys,

I am considering a resonator delete on my 2011 Mazdaspeed 3. I've watched countless videos on YouTube and they all sound different due to recording equipment, ambient conditions, etc.

Will I regret it (I.e. drone)? Any shame in being 33 years old and driving around like that? Haha. I would be embarrassed if it sounded like a fart can exhaust.

Just curious what your thoughts are. I'll be installing a test pipe and TMIC shortly and just waiting on an e30 tune from Stratified. Already have a 3" intake, autofocus, and APv3.

    Thanks!

    Andrew

I'd wait until you get the test pipe in. It does affect the sound a bit.

this is a good representation of what it will sound like. But he has a stock intake. your 3" intake will probably drown it out on acceleration, especially if it's metal.

Yes there will be a drone highway that's what the resonator is designed to reduce... As mango said wait til you get that test pipe in, you may surprising be happy with it as it will be louder and have a different sound

    Thanks Gents!

I think I will forego the resonator delete for now...you have likely saved me from making a mistake.

So I actually ended up doing the resonator delete. To be honest, the results are still pretty muted and almost no noticeable drone at all.

I think it will open up a bit more once I have the test pipe installed and will be more enjoyable and not overly loud.

I think i was fretting over nothing, haha.

Quite honestly, I was expecting this amazing sound when I installed my long Cobb Downpipe, and it was very subtle. A little more growl, but overall very tame. I think the best actual sound would come from replacing the muffler with a quality aftermarket can.

My favorite exhaust sound was when my genjuan was on a catless test pipe and dual resonator delete. Stock dp, stock cbe; shit sounded fucking fantastic.

Even though the Gen 2's only have one resonator, I think the sound is a lot more subdued compared to the Gen 1 with dual resonator deletes.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the cheap mod, but I may weld on some 4" exhaust tips from magnaflow or something to dress it up a bit.

Mechanical mods are on hold as I'm starting to battle rust, which sucks.

I recently had a gasket fail between my resonated UR test pipe and OEM exhaust that caused a bit of a rumble. The drone was annoying as hell.
