My 2011 Gen 2 is starting to succumb to its age and our harsh, salty ass winters in Canada.

Bottom inside of the front passenger door is starting to rust, as well as the rear passenger side wheel arch. In both cases, it appears that the seam sealer has failed in these areas causing the start of rust issues.

Anyone else with a Gen 2 showing signs of rust?

Given where these areas are, I'm going to try and tackle them myself first. Only thing I don't really know how to do (sorry, im lying...i don't know how to do any of this, lol) is removal of the seam sealer. I know I'll want to take these areas down to metal, use a rust neutralizing product/primer, and get some paint made up at the local autobody store to match the factory colour (as best as possible), a couple coats of clearcoat, wet sand and polish.

Would you guys try this yourself? Car is turning 10 years old and turning around 127,000 miles.

EDIT: the goopy looking coating on the first picture is a product called Rust Check. I also had the car Krown'd this year. 20201115_201929.jpg 20201115_201901.jpg

Ever consider buying a Gen 2 here in the states and swapping everything over? You can find non MS3 chassis for anywhere between 3 and 5k that would be pretty clean. Sure it's a lot of work but getting one from the desert area (AZ, NV, UT, TX) would be ideal.

That would be way more trouble than it's worth. It is my daily driver and has served me very well.

I would like to keep it as my DD for another 3 or 4 years and then will sell it. I would like to keep it respectable looking during that time though without it becoming a rust bucket.
