Hey like i said, im fmic gang, just sayin so that i can get my posts up for the raffles haha

I wouldnt want to run a tmic for anything past 350ish but if someone wanted to do it for some reason they definitely could.

Well bud I wish. Cost is going to keep me away right now and I certainly not going with a cx racing kit. Obviously tmic have their place and I will prolly use one as a stop gap but I personally dont think so highly of them as you do. I have just seen way too many dynos where fmics blow away the good quality top mounts on WRXs.
I actually had a friend (now about 15 years ago lol) that had your standard td05h-20g (non-billet, approx 48 lb/min) on just your standard intake, dp, exhaust. He also thought on his mild 93 pump setup that he didnt need a fmic. However after spending thousands on different top mounts he finally decided to get a fmic. On the same dyno, same tuner, with the same setup car made 30whp more. This wasnt anything crazy. Just a mid 300 whp car. However like you said. It's all in what you are happy with.

    Lol. Yeah right.

    Haha. Me too.

Listen Mr I'm trying to get my post count up so I can enter the raffle by trolling.

Perhaps one day I'll go Fmic and that day is when I start running port Injection until then TMIC is a viable option for me and many others.

Seems like a tmic is a good fit for a k04 though. Atleast in my opinion.

I'd argue it works really well with the bnrs3 and cst4 anything around that 2867 to 3071 mark bnrs4 and cst5 would certainly be keeping a good tmic near its limit.

3076+ yeah you probably may as well go Fmic

So let me re-phrase. What is the highest dyno of a s3/cst4 with a tmic?

Top mount is a good solution for this car until it starts becoming a flow restriction. And if you aren't willing to spend 400+ on a core and take the time to construct all of the baffling necessary for good airflow through it you will be worse off with a fmic.

OP stated he only has an intake, hpfp, exhaust, tune. If you use methanol for cooling and not fueling it doesn't matter if it quits.

Hpfp seems to be far more reliable. Also. If an hpfp quits it will most likely not be at wot. Methanol systems are generally low capacity and only work at higher boost ie WOT. The sureflow pumps and controllers are not reliable long term with the cheaper kits. I have ran 2 different methanol systems on 2 different builds. Not sure if I would ever go back. At one time I was running 2x630 ml/min nozzles at a 70% meth-water mix with on an evo boosting 30 psi on a BW s259ett. I was running that because the treadstone intercooler couldn't keep up. Basically I was using it as a bandaid for a cheap chinese cored intercooler. I wont do that again. Not to mention even using a progressive controller, the control over the nozzles and flow distribution isn't ideal.

The question is when does it become a flow restriction. Seems to be some interesting debate on that. As far as a fmic goes. It's not that I am not willing to do a higher quality core it's the fact I dont have the money to spend right this minute. I will eventually get there. I have other priorities. Again really just used as a stop gap, and it seems to be a good fit for the k04 anyways. So why not.

There's a wonderful button that lets you Multi quote "+quote" bottom right of the posts.
Screenshot_20210326-103019.png click it on the posts you wish to quote once you do a "insert quotes" button will appear on the reply box,
    Screenshot_20210326-103242.png
tap that and they'll all be inserted and can now be quoted in one, no more merging posts for me.

Wmi pump failing only matters if you are using it for fueling as long as you are within the flow capabilities of the stock injectors you are safe.

Slapping a fmic in there is likely worse than staying stock

On any nozzle that makes any difference you are going to have to adjust fuel trims. There is no getting around it. Even the tiny 300 ml/min nozzles with a 50/50 mix will throw your afrs down in the 9s-10s and make the car run like garbage. Also a 300 mil nozzle isn't going to do much either. I generally dont mess around with anything less than 600 ml/min. Just not worth the hassle imo. Lots and lots of info out there on blown engines on methanol kits from snow performance, devils own etc from failed sureflow pumps, clogged nozzles, failed controllers etc. I ran and tuned on my first methanol kit over 10 years ago. I just wont use a methanol kit as a bandaid for an intercooler again.

What if I told you that the ECU has an ability to adjust fuel trims on it own and on top of that straight water has better cooling properties than a 50/50 mix

Correct me if I am wrong but the primary 02 sensor only adjusts fuel trims in closed loop operation. Not open loop via wot. Water displaces fuel. In my experience it's not nearly as effective at making power as methanol. I originally started with a 30% meth/water mix and eventually moved up to 70% meth/water mix. The difference is huge. Even at 30% water it still retains the cooling properties in my experience. I have not found straight water to be effective hardly at all and it doesnt address flow support via undersized and or inefficient cores.

Your changing the topic this thread is about cooling and now in an effort to not be completely wrong you are talking about fueling with meth

You also seem willing to grossly misunderstand all aspects of engine operation to support your theory of fmic>tmic

    Cooling and flow support
Umm no. When people talk about wmi....methanol is the fuel in that particular combination. I never had much luck myself running higher quantities of water.

So correct me then almighty. I think you just prefer to be condescending instead. You know what....forget it. I am going tmic as I mentioned.
