The head is definitely usable. You would need to do a little machining to get rid of the pitting around the valves from the little pieces that were flying around in there. I have a long block that will be on the way shortly. Let me get back to you once I have everything squared away with the new motor.

Funny how I was excited last week thinking that I was only 1500 miles away from 250k & mentioned to my GF how well the car was running. I guess the Mazda gods showed me LOL. I'm not totally shocked, shit happens. I've got a new long block on the way so happy Speed 3 driving isn't too far off.

Where are you getting your new long block from?

I got it through Jordan at Overspeed Motorsports in New Orleans. Nice guy. He actually talked me out of buying a built motor seeings that my power goals ultimately are 350-360hp which is totally doable on stock block DD. Spending extra money didn’t make sense for my situation.

Does he warranty a stock build at those power levels?

Asking out of curiosity...also wondering if a mild build would be good. Like stock pistons with better rods or something.

Simple piston and rods to me always seems like a good idea that being said if Jordan has a stock block in good shape and the price is right I totally get it heck if I had to do anything right now that's what I'd do (some house projects on the go)

@OP, that damage is quite severe, and It looks like you have a handful of power mods and a tune.

How long have you been on the latest tune? Were the injectors you replaced the originals on your engine?

Did you monitor data after injector swap to make sure there wasn't knock?

I know this is kind of an old forum but I was hoping you would be able to tell me how you fixed this problem. I'm having the exact same issue and it happened the exact same way yours did. From stopped shifting to second. Thank you for any and all advice/help

I fixed the problem buying a new long block and installing it. But then again you would have known that if you had actually read the entire thread.
