A couple of weeks ago I went against the advice of some of you and tried out the Hypertech tuner—I was really curious what it would be like. I did like the way it felt in some ways and I wanted more of that, and after a day or two it ultimately made me desire a better tune.

And so I got an Accessport along with the Freektune OTS+.

I tried out a couple of the Cobb tunes and eventually I received the standard Freektune OTS, and then I sent back some logs early last week and am waiting for the OTS+. I already like the feel of the standard OTS so I’m really looking forward to the revision.

Once the OTS+ is complete I’ll report back my thoughts on it vs. the OTS, the 91/93 octane Cobb OTS (didn’t see a difference between 91/93), Hypertech, and stock.

Should find a nice flat road and log all the different maps. Then look at them in vdyno. That might be interesting.

Do you have an idea what power gains you got with the Freektune OTS+? I have a Corksport stage 2 intake and HPFP internals and I wouldn’t have the foggiest idea what that might translate to in power gains with the tune, in addition to any power gains the OTS+ might give to an otherwise stock car.

I tried the Cobb and I did like that the idle was low and relatively smooth.

You could ask freek to set the idle to a desired number if you wanted it back to that, it is a very easy tune change. If you are ko4 you are looking to make around 325-335whp on most e30 tunes. With e30 tuners can push the timing so that is where you really see the gains over 93. E30 will give you more more space under the curve so you will get more power over all. On a 93 tune you are looking at 300-310whp. The ko4 will hit hard at first and die up top no matter the tune. It is just not big enough to keep up and becomes a hair dryer.

Without a Downpipe you'll be sub 280 whp on 91

Are you talking about 300-310whp on an otherwise stock vehicle? (Or sub-280 on 91, as Awafrican says.) Or are you estimating based on my modest modifications?

Either way that meets my goals.

I just received my ‘B’ revision from Freektune. Looking forward to trying it out tomorrow.

I am talking with simple flow mods, intake, downpipe, intercooler, hpfp, tune.

Hell, You can max the K04 on E30 with just hpfp, intake and a test pipe. Not on an ots+ map tho

I just saw an opportunity to get a Forge bypass valve for a decent price. Will that affect the tune any? I don’t want to mess up the process since I’m still sending logs to Freektune. Or is it of dubious value anyway?

It will if it sucks and is leaking. Install it when the tune is finished. You don't want him to correct the mafcal for a new part that could be leaking that he does not know about.

had a gfb bpv on my speed with an ots no issues, turned out my oem was was leaking due to a crack just above the mounting flange.

I picked it up today. What rating are the blue springs? I saw what looked like red and silver springs. So if there’s blue that’s what’s in there, and the dude said he was running around 30psi which seems out of range for me (latest log didn’t reach above 17psi on a 3000-6500 3rd gear pull, though I’m not sure what further Freektune is going to do).

Ok, I took things apart this morning and realised the silver spring is actually the blue spring. Looks like no shims. I’ll contact the dude and see if he has them. How big a deal is it, and could I use anything else in place of them?

Also, I wanted to clean things up. I’m assuming the piston thingy needs grease on the sides? Looks like it had a little bit of red n’ tacky in there.

You guys are little amusing. I have no reason not to believe you, but I want to make an informed decision. Following what you say simply because you said it would be me being sheep-like.

true true, but why ask then? i learned real quick that Mfers on here know from first hand experience. ( unless otherwise stated) I'd trust the info being given and then make your own choice. its like being upset with the results you didn't get from the work you didn't do. just don't make sense.
