So I searched on this site and around the Webz and found one vague post on another Mazda site about this.

Has anyone replaced the bearing on the intermediate shaft? I am not aware that mine currently has an issue but since I'm pulling the motor and will be down for a few weeks I figure this as good a time as any to address it if I do.

There is def some slop on it and that is normal. I have not seen anyone replace the bearing but it seems like you could as there does appear to be a part # for it.

I think that is the only part of my front end I have not replaced.

Yeah I'm pretty much in the same boat on the front end. Still have the original axles @143 k we will see if there's any issues this weekend when the motor comes out.

I try to be proactive on this stuff to avoid any extra Oh Fuck situations.

post a link to what? The procedure?

Make sure you order the bearing and the seals first from Mazda.

GREAT time to change your from sway bar bushings! More space for sure.

My new Mazda bearing which measured the same as the old one, was actually loose inside the carrier. I could it push it on and out by hand. Gulp.

I think it has started to spin inside the carrier and made the carrier slightly larger so I had to use Permatex Bearing Mount glue #20297on the new bearing.

    Ill post pics.
