I just ordered the HTP 3.5" Intake. I know that the ECU will need to be relocated, but I am really not wanting to drop another $120 on a small battery tray. If I just mount the ECU to the front of the stock battery box, will this give me sufficient space for the new intake? Or is the small battery box almost a requirement?

I have the JBR and stock battery in my gen1. Box needed to be cut to fit and battery on top of fuse box.

I have the HTP 3.5" too. I entirely removed/relocated the ECU with a Trackmasters bracket. I had to do it an an angle because I didn't want to pull my wiring harnesses quite so tight and/or modify them. Even with everything completely detached from the side of my battery box, the HTP 3.5" still has rubbed through the P/C'ing at the front-left corner of the battery box. I'm not worried, though. It's just P/C'ing. Also, it's worth mentioning that I have a BNR S3, so your intake may not shift as far over as mine sits with your turbo. I really don't know. Maybe someone else can speak to that:

Perfect. This is actually what I was looking for. I was thinking about doing something similar with the bracket. I dont really care how ugly it is as long as it works. My car is all go and no show.. lol. And the CS turbo sits exactly like the stock turbo (IIRC), so I dont think it will be shifting quite as far over as yours. Thanks!

I appreciate your two cents, kind sir.

I got a 51R battery and the ecu fits inside the stock battery box on the side.

What type of bracket/mount did you use to secure it? That's also a solid idea... Looks like I have a couple of different options.

I used the stock battery tie down, to secure it, it looks stock.

I can take a picture if you need more information or an idea.

Just as an aside, part of the reason I didn't go 51R is because I have a system in my car, so I wanted to retain as large of a battery as possible. It may not apply to you, but I thought I'd mention it.

If you don't mind taking a picture, that would be great!

That's good info for down the road! But right now, I don't have anything but the stock system.

I do like that. Thanks for providing that picture. Only issue is, I would have to buy the 51R battery and that's about 100 or bucks more... So might as well drop the additional 50 bucks for the CS box. I'll try my luck with a bracket mounted to the front of the battery box and go from there...

Mine will probably be ghetto as well, but I'll probably use zip ties... I do have a buddy that welds and fabricates, so maybe I can get him to whip me up something and I'll just tie it down with some nylon fasteners.

The HTP 3.5" is known to be a tighter fit right at that corner. I'm not sure if that's in comparison to the silicone and/or metal 3.5" JBRs.

I did this as well. I used bolts that I had already laying around, hence the use of spacers to secure the ECU. My intake is only 3", so if I had a bigger one I would just have to swap out the bolts for the additional clearance needed. Keeps the engine bay nice and clean with the ECU hidden too.

I was not aware of this although the post by @Quigs above shows that the HTP fits with the stock battery box

LOL. Happens to the best of us. In all honesty, an HTP 3" is enough to handle 400whp and then some. My 3.5" is overkill. I just wanted to future-proof if I ever wanted to easily handle 500whp or more. Pretty sure 4" isn't needed until 600+whp, IIRC.

@rfinkle2 , by chance have you uploaded that handy-dandy spreadsheet that shows what mods support what power levels onto MSO? If not, that'd be an awesome resource to have on here! :D

I got the 3.5" for compensating reasons...
