I was hoping I wouldn't have to make a thread like this so soon in my MSO career but here we go...

I was driving around this weekend with some friends, and did a pull in 3rd gear 3k-5k, when I heard a horrible raspy noise. Limped the car to the nearest lot and checked under the hood. No audible knocking, but she was sounding like a diesel. Turns out the primary O2 sensor had been completely ejected from the down pipe. It sounded like my down pipe had turned into a screamer pipe. Checked the threads and they look decent at best. Was able to get the O2 back in, hand tight, and stop the aforementioned noise. The new issue is that its making a slight tick noise on throttle blips, not constant through the rpm range. Could it be because the O2 isn't tightened correctly? I need to grab an O2 tool and see if its salvageable. My AP sale fell through, so no logs at the moment.

You have an aftermarket downpipe, no married AP or versatuner, the o2 ejected itself and you hand tightened it back in. Now you're hearing a noise. Is that correct or did I miss something?

Also yes tighten down that o2 sensor before anything else.

I have a stock down pipe, stock car in general. HPFP awaiting install. And yes, no AP or versatuner. The O2 sensor was hand tightened soon after the car had cooled, just so I could get the car home (5miles). The the car hasn't been driven since. No WOT during this time. The sound was noticed on the way home. I'm probably just overthinking things at this time, and need to tighten down the O2 sensor if its not completely stripped.

I've seen them cross-threaded from the factory. You can get a socket and tighten it down. But if stripped, a new bung will need to be welded in. Or upgrade to aftermarket or replace OEM. Hpfp upgrade before catless, as well as versatuner or AP and a Protune.

Check threads of sensor too, if marred, replace.

Tighten up that o2 sensor or replace it if needed to get a tight seal. Besides the noise, that exhaust leak will actually throw off the ECU's readings and make the car drive wonky. So one step at a time. Fix that first.

Update! O2 sensor has been tightened effectively, and the noise is gone. I also am not getting any codes, so no complaints. Thanks all for the input, and the kindness haha. I would've been flamed on another "not to be named" forum lol
