Car has been dropped off at the shop. It drove great for the 30 minute drive. No issues.

it’s got an exhaust leak for sure. Ticking like an old work truck. Definitely sounds like it’s coming from the header. Probably is. That’ll get fixed.

alignment isn’t too bad so that was cool!

exhaust leak will be fixed then exhaust will go on. Gonna have them check for any fluid leaks as well just incase.

After that it’s dyno time. He’s gonna let me know which night this week so I can be there.

    Coming up soon!

Cars still ticking loudly. Coming from the head. Not a leak. I told them to reinstall the stock exhaust so I can sell the new one.

Calipers will come off. Coilovers will come off. Rest of the car I’ll sell.

I don’t have the money to do this again right now and a car sitting in my garage all summer is not happening. Somehow I knew this was how it was gonna go.

I’m not an overly patient person as you all probably know by now so sitting and waiting just isn’t going to happen.

    Rip civic race car.

Its too bad, the Civic was coming along and I thought this summer would be interesting to watch. Sad to see it go...and what are you going to do?

    Perhaps a Miata next?

This is some sort of valve tick noise. Something in the head. Not sure what. It’s going to be money to find out what’s wrong and fix it. I just can’t do it right now so I’m not sure what’s next. We’ll see. I need to think about it

I need to go to the shop still and see what’s up. It sounds like the head needs to come off though.

Or you could ignore the noise and just send it anyway

I agree with EB. Is there drivability issues? Or just audible noise?

Oil pressure good? Valve lash set? Running aftermarket injectors? My Miata ticks and the injectors are loud (Flow Force 640cc) but it runs like a champ.

My injectors do tick loud. That I’m use to. This sounds like an exhaust leak. It’s a very loud tick. I thought for sure it’s just a stupid exhaust leak. The car definitely drove OK I didn’t notice anything weird but I also haven’t floored it or taken it to limiter. Not sure wtf to do next.

I’ll head to the shop after work today and see what’s what

    1. charge your phone homeslice
    2. i think you are of the right mind now, if it makes power and the sound isnt getting worse then fuck it.

did you check that the head was flat at the exhaust flange and that the header was flat?

LOL. Yea gotta plug this thing in.

I did not check the exhaust flange but that’s definitely an idea. It may be an exhaust leak still? I’ll monitor it overtime.

tomorrows a holiday here(Good Friday, Easter weekend) so hopefully I’m out of work early today and straight to the shop. The updates will be coming soon

Don't give up homie. We all understand your frustrations and have been there ourselves.

Never considered valve springs as a possibility for creating a ticking noise but it can make sense. The stiffer setup would transfer more noise through the cover.

I have a different car that has an exhaust leak where the manifold connects to the exhaust. It is loud and at times can sound like something is wrong with the motor. But it hasn't gotten worse in 40 k miles. It actually is loudest when it's cold and starts to close up as it gets hot.

Update. One of my shocks is apparently leaking fluid pretty bad.
Guess it’s a good thing I spent money on expensive custom suspension…

The ticking noise isnt something you can use ye old long screwdriver to track down? Or one of those stethoscopes with a stick on the end?

Preliminary pulls. Just setting up vtec crossover and getting the map safe enough for a full pull.

the dotted line is last years 174whp. The solid line is tonight’s number.

225whp 160wtq. We haven’t tuned cam angles orAFR’s or anything really. The ticking is loud but it’s making some sauce here. Revving to 8200rpm currently. We’ll go to 8500 on Saturday but that HP line is steady moving up. I’m OK with this lol. Looks freaking good
    AEB8A411-25F6-4EA1-9D68-E50075C45522.jpeg

We’ll finish up the tune on Saturday. Hoping for another 10whp. 235 on this dyno would be sweet

The stethoscope is the header. You can hear it in the exhaust lol all the way down to the cat back flange. Sounds like it’s coming from the head

Shrug. I am saying determine if it is the front/back/left/right of the head. If its the same everywhere then its likely just the setup. If (only) one spot is louder then at least you have the noise / potential issue narrowed down.
