So I bought a 2013 speed 3 a little under a month ago and while changing my oil today I noticed that it’s the gen 1 engine. The seller never told me this even when I asked what was replaced (bought from a private party). Is there anything I can do about this since I wasn’t told about it even after I asked?

Why do you think its a Gen 1 engine?

It has the gen 1 valve cover and the gen 1 style oil filter

Given that it's a private sale you're probably SOL unless you can get the seller to buy it back or you take them to small claims court for "damages"

Best bet would try and get them to actually tell you whats up with the engine "hey this isn't the original engine, I asked you about it and you didn't say anything, could you please share the engine history" then go from there.

Irritating that it's not a gen 2 engine in there for sure.

Edit. Also check the vin on the back of the block more ammunition for you

I’ll definitely try that, I’m just trying to not get screwed here if I haven’t already. Thank you for the help!

I wouldn't sweat it too much. There is a spin on oil filter conversion out there. They may not be original owners either.

Man, that sucks to hear. Hopefully they didn't just throw in a junkyard engine with unknown mileage or history. I would feel cheated as well. But as Raider said, if they're the second or third owner, maybe they honestly didn't know.

When I'm selling my cars, I am honest to a fault. I want to make sure the next owner knows about every single thing of importance. It may result in money knocked off the sale, but I get to have a clear conscience.

A clear conscience is the best pillow.
