So I have been reading through this thread as I was curious to see what a higher comp setup would be capable of. I like the in-depth details you look at. Good work and thank you for the insight. I am no tuning expert so please don't slaughter me for asking a NOOB question.

I noticed that your boost drops off really fast as you go higher in the rev range and with an EFR turbo this is quite surprising to me as you should be able to run higher boost at redline. If I look at my boost profile or how some other big turbo setups run they use a reverse tapered boost profile where the get the boost up to 20PSI (give or take) and ramp it up to the peak boost like 24-26PSi. Don't know if this is just because most were stock block or if this was a general rule of thumb for the local tuners. SO, in short, the question is why tamper down so much rather than to keep the 24PSi all the way to redline? I would guess it is because of either feulling or higher compression.

Main reason is I'm out of fuel, so I have to taper it off:
    upload_2020-3-30_9-34-47.png

I'm still flowing massive amounts of air though, as I'm regularly seeing 4.2v on a 3.5" intake (which is no small feat for stock injectors only) at the RPMs I'm hitting:

    upload_2020-3-30_9-37-49.png

A rough estimate would put 1g/s of airflow = 1 HP at the wheels or so, but I have a lot more room for timing right now and I'm hitting around 320 WHP.

In the attached log I hit 4.16 volts due to temps (it's a WGDC only tune, using the above table) and still make about 320 WHP. This is with 17 degrees timing at 8100 RPM (where as on stock block I'd be running about 20 degrees @ 6k and probably 30+ @ 8k).

Edit for readability; just woke up.

Many of you are probably aware that I've been testing a lot of stuff on the VT side to try and get a load targeting issue figured out. Well, unfortunately, the sum of all this testing that has been done might have hurt my engine, which now smokes a fair bit on acceleration and randomly during cruise (enough to make traffic behind me back off, and this is during light accel / cruise).

To be clear, I don't blame anyone for this, as before the engine was ever making stock power I had written it off as a loss for a number of reasons, so there shouldn't be any hate directed anywhere.

So, while there's no smoke coming out of the valve cover, blowby seems like it might be a bit higher, and I probably won't know more until I can do a compression and leakdown test to see what's going on. Whether it's turbo or engine, I don't really have the funds to do much of anything with the car at the moment, so best case it remains drivable, worst case I'll probably sell it and get a cheap beater daily which I'll have to use for probably a few years.

Sorry guys; I had high hopes.

I hope so too. I feel like if this ends it will be the symbolic end of the Speed world. I've all but given up on mine.

I'm so so sorry, @Enki. You can at least source a whole used speed for parts at about cost of a beater.

Yeah but you understand the whole love hate thing. I can build a high compression e85 V8 at around 600 CHP for less than I have invested in my current DISI-MZR.

Tell him what? Hold up a mirror and he loses interest in anything else.

Also yeah it would have been smarter to go old school right out the gate, but I loved the comfort and styling of the 3. Had that happened, nobody here would know me lol.

    Stop sounding like a sissy.

Yes you can build a high HP v8 for the same money, but the attention is different for a high HP v8 than an import station wagon.

You still have a great chassis (not covered in cancerous rust), you have a great turbo and turbo accessories (that alternator, water pump), I bet that you haven't even gotten around to tuning your KW's.

IF really big IF, your engine is blown just rebuild it or buy a built one from a vendor. Move on, because even without the frank-engine you still have an awesome car that YOU put together.

I think you just have fatigue. You went "full retard" on a car by dissecting the engine, accessories, suspension, and even the fucking shifter all at the same time. That's a big no no. Plus you made yourself a test mule for VT, fuck that man. It's a car, it's made to be driven. Car companies have whole teams of engineers to do all the shit that you did in the same window.

So put your big boy pants back on, figure out the smoke (more than likely valve seals from some botched camshaft resonance issue), and move on.

Or just buy an LS and invest in jorts, tube socks and reeboks.

If he already has jorts, tube socks and Reebok's doesn't the LS make more sense?

Sadly I only have jeans, ankle socks and Sketchers.

Also @Mauro_Penguin you're not wrong, but there are other things I gotta get done money wise before I'll be able to invest in a new engine for this car.

If I'm going to go that level of retard I still have the Falcon in the back yard, but that thing is a decade away from being driveable.

    Need a 5.3 or a 6.0? I think the 5.3 just needs shipping. It's a running motor

It needs a floor, a steering rack, and something that isn't wood for suspension before it needs a motor. Lol
