That wespartsplug guy on facebook deals with those JDM engines a lot I believe. I think the only thing you might encounter that will suck is if you get a CX-7 one since the turbo that comes with has a smaller compressor?

I was honestly looking into getting a built engine already since I’ve been saving up but it’s been more than two people already telling me to stay away from speed performance. I also emailed overspeed and they said they aren’t taking any orders in right now either so I’m not sure for how long. I might just end up getting a jdm engine for now then, $2000 for used engine wouldn’t be bad.

I messaged the JDM engine place and they have a cx7 engine for $1995. That should bolt right up with everything on my speed correct? I mean I’d be swapping out the turbo and putting on my CST4 either way

Nice! Now I know where to look for a used motor should I ever need one.

Jordan from Overspeed Motorsports was a rockstar with his customer service when I bought a motor through him.

If you have the money and can wait for a motor I would go with speed performance. I just got to 1.5k miles on my stage 1 long block from them and haven’t had issues with it yet. Paid about $10.5k total which included long block & install + clutch, flywheel, slave & master cylinder install.

They’re very responsive over email or phone, plus I get the benefit of getting tuned by Nishan in the shop.

To be clear: I got my motor 2 months late but they kept me updated. I work In supply chain and have a clear understanding of the delays all companies are going through. Plus flooding in NJ put them behind.. They’re also always busy as s***t with plenty of eco boost cars (speeds, ST, RS, F150s). Every single time i go they got 15+ cars there.

I had to go back due to a small leak but there were able to accommodate me immediately and took care of the issue under warranty - no questions asked.

I see a couple of people bashing them here and there but I consider the amount of business they have proof of their quality and reputation. Also, I find about 10x the good reviews on them then bad. In addition, my experience with them has been good so far.

Take your time to evaluate your next steps. Getting built is expensive and you’ll never get that money back. Unless you intend to keep your Speed for a couple of years it may not be worth it. Also keep an eye of Facebook market place I see built motors for up every once and a while.

I have seen too much hack work from speed performance over the years. If they did your install I guarantee there are missing bolts and shit just ziptied everywhere

Well, I’m hoping I’m one of the guys who’ll be able to post a 40k update on the build lol. Myself, my buddy, and my family mechanic looked over it and all seems to be nice and tidy - no zip ties seen haha.

It’s really mind boggling how many good reviews I see out there and then run into the one person who absolutely hates them.

I’ve seen and read nothing but good reviews about jordan at overspeed but he just replied to me saying they’re not taking any orders in anytime soon so I’m not sure how much would the wait be for them. Graveyard also replied to me saying their stage 1 built motor goes for $5750 with me sending in my core but I don’t think my blown engine could be considered a core right? Is there anybody here that has gotten their engine built by graveyard that can vouch for them? I’m 50/50 about speed performance since they want $9500 just for a built brand new long block and I’ve read how peoples warranty got voided because someone else, aside from them, installed their engine incorrectly.

yes sending in your old blown engine is the core (make sure you remove all accessories, hpfp, power steering, alternator, AC, starter, manifolds, coil packs, etc).

Hey Benny if you don’t mind me asking, how much was it for your build? Did you send in your engine as a core or did you get a brand new built engine?

Awesome thanks! I’ll try to get someone to start taking all of that stuff off just to have it ready to send in.

I would recommend you get your shop that is doing the install have OK from whoever you are getting build engine from. Warrenty claims will start Finger pointing to happen between builder and installer.

You blew a hole in your block it can't be used for a core because it can't be rebuilt

Makes sense. Well I hope graveyard gets back to me again or hopefully Jordan at overspeed gets back into it soon already

I actually did not buy a built motor. My problem was I didn't have a core to send him because my core was unusable due the sleeve inside cylinder 3 coming apart. Jordan was able to order me a brand new factory stock long block directly from Mazda delivered for $5k. I decided at that point not to go built motor because the cost didn't make sense. Being a DD now at 330whp it worked out perfect for my goals.
