I finally disassembled the engine which broke and I got some photos. Not sure if anyone is interested to see but I thought I’d share :)

Here’s from the outside. It seems more significant in person. There’s a small hole on the opposite side.

    Here’s the oil pan.

And here’s the inside of the block. You can see the broken rod attached to the piston. I presume the bottom piece of that rod was banging about and caused the damaged before it bent and wedged against the crank.

Good news is that I think the crankshaft is ok so I can reuse it.

Was the #4 crank end cap loose? The block shows what... you would call... walking around the block saddle; end shows what looks like being hammered from cap movement. I am interested in your next steps.
    I really feel your pain.

Interesting. I didn’t notice those bolts being looser. Though that side of the bearing cap was ‘independent’ since it was completely broken between cylinder 3 and 4. I had driven it for maybe 30 seconds after it happened to get it over to the side of the road.

I actually bought an engine a while back and am rebuilding it. I needed this crank since the crank in the engine I’m rebuilding had rod knock and wasn’t salvageable (according to the machine shop). Hopefully I’ll get it done in the next two weeks!
