The video is really short. Is it doing that while the engine is running? Or is that just with the key on?

Damn that sucks. Is the block scored at all or is it salvageable?

Not to computer literate but I know enough to get by. Here's the one YouTube Channel (Speedkar99) that can give you a brief but thorough explanation as to what the cold start rattling is and shows you exactly what makes the noise as well. But keep in mind that it may also be other than as well but only you know what you are working with and on. I'm a certified tech and this is my underlying issue due to the lack of oil changes and upkeep by the previous owners who either failed to do so, or just had enough fun and wanted to get rid of it while it was still running rather than out any money into it. So when your using such a water like viscosity (0-20w/5-20w) on a used engine (122,xxx n change) Im surprised that there's wasn't more significant damage to the internal parts. But I knew upon mere observation that it was a very good deal for me despite the age as well. I have an '08 6/2.3l with power everything, dark tint, dual exhaust, very good interior, with minimal body damage. But I just changed the timing chain kit and the same noise was present upon cold start up as it had it had been before doing so. So I had to to look around and find out who had the answer to this problem and sure enough, Mr. "Speedkar99" had the answer. So for anyone else experiencing this problem then surely here's one one possible solution. Also there was a (TSB) technical service bulletin on the factory VVT which was recalled if you should've found out about it. Also for thees engines you may also refer to YouTube Channel "I Do Engines" and this guy will show you what troubles these engines (Mazdaspeed 3/6 as well) while actually breaking down one before you and explaining the most common problems with them and what to look for when buying one. I hope this helps someone out there as it has myself because that rattling upon startup is annoying. Just replaced the drivers cv axles being the boot had a tear, water and whatever else entered and washed out all of the grease this causing it to eventually severely "click" while turning. Car just needs a little TLC and it'll be brought back to life as new. Didnt even have to do a compression test because I knew the care was worth what he was asking if not more. And that's being that I do the work shops here in Seattle charge an a and a leg for on labor alone. Reasons people here choose not to try and keep the investment going any longer. Anyhow best to you all! B safe N take Care!
