I have a 2013 Mazdaspeed 3 that my mechanic swapped out the engine for a used engine out of a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. It was the only used engine he could find. Everything went well except in 3rd and 4th gear the Turbo cuts out at 4000 and 5000 rpms. It's pretty violent when it happens.

Just wondering if anyone out there knows why this is happening? I was wondering if it had something to do with the year difference in engine. Not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

It is likely fuel cut, you could be going over load in those gears and getting fuel cut. If the turbo is creeping and the car is not tuned for it , it will do this. You need to log the event and see what IDC "injector duty cycle" and see what the rest of the car is doing.

Thanks. I'll have to look into that.

My problem ended up being a bad Turbo Solenoid. Luckily it was an easy fix.
