Hey guys i bought a 08 mazdaspeed 3, with blown engine, wanted to know if a 08 mazdaspeed 6 engine will work and what needs to get changed, i notice the oil filter housing on both engines is different, the speed 3 is a regular metal and the speed6 is a paper filter those that matter? How about the wiring? Thanks in advanced

You could swap that oil filter adapter to the transplant engine (look up spin on conversion oil filter) other than that everything is the same as long as you use the trans from the Speed3.

    Source: a buddy swapped the engines between a Speed3 and a speed6

Filter between the gen1 (<2010, 2010+=gen2) and speed are actually both cartridge style filter's "paper" as you called it guess what's inside the "normal" metal filter..the same stuff.
The 08 speed you have has had the spin on filter conversion done. To be the same as the gen 2 speed 3.

The engines between any of the speed 3 and ms6 are all swap able as they're the same (minis some improvements on gen 2 ms3).
I'm not too familiar with exact differences between the ms6 and 3 but it should just bolt right up, harness etc I believe to be the same too.
@Sho any differences in the ms6 bay be gen1 you're aware of?

Edit: naturally you need to use a speed 3 transmission for the 3, I know the 6 Turbo oil drain line are slightly different to clear their transfer case, and the 6 cold pipe of tmic is different too so you'll want the 3s one for that if you're tmic

Gen 2 also has a improved oil cooler design that does not leak every 10k miles.

Couldn't a CX-7 engine be swapped in as well?

From the appropriate years Sure could, most of the ones I've seen on eBay are those. just don't want it's turbo or engine harness if I recall correctly. Turbo is slightly smaller and engine harness doesn't quite plug in, if you're putting it into a gen2 speed then you'd want to swap the power steering from your car onto it at the very least

I think the compression ratio is different as well.
