Just wanted to share with fellow members how I was able to get a new dash for $123.44.

My kid just bought a 2011 1 owner 64k MS3 last week. Just like all the MS3s we looked at it had the dashboard bulge, this one probably being the worst of all of them. From reading I knew they had extended the warranty for the dashboards but it had already expired but put in a call to local dealership and was told that extended warranty had expired and they could not perform the repair, just as I expected but why not call and try?

I'm not one to just give up so put in a call to Mazda Corporate. Spoke to a rep there and I explained that I understood it was out of warranty but was worried from a safety standpoint since the bulge is very close to the passenger airbag that if god forbid there were to be an accident and the airbag would deploy the display could possibly become loose and become a projectile. I told the rep although not cosmetically pleasing to look at my concern was safety. Rep setup appointment to drop off car yesterday so the dealer could evaluate the condition of the dash. About 3 hours later received a call from dealership stating Mazda agreed to replace the dashboard free of charge and 1/2 of the labor cost to install it which left us $123.44 out of pocket.

Just got home with the car today and boy such a small thing makes a huge difference, and for $123.44 we chalked it up as a big win.

Hopefully this helps some of you out there possibly getting the same deal. I'm a pretty good people person and negotiator so that helped me for sure, and I was always very thankful for everything rep was doing. Obviously your results may vary but if you give it a shot good luck and hopefully you do better than we did and get it free.

dealers will make so-called "goodwill" repairs authorized and paid through the manufacturer. usually heavily discounted or free. basically they are acknowledging there is a problem but your warranty is lapsed. most dealers will play ball you just gotta find one who will. good on you for asking. mine got replaced for free a few years back while i was in for something else; the eagle eyed service advisor was just like "oh yeah i had your dash replaced" without even telling me lol.

I can tell you from experience that customer attitude is key to wether or not a dealership will good will things outside of warranty. Another thing to consider is brand loyalty. If you have multiple cars of the same make then the company will most likely consider taking care of you.

My dealership has a body shop and the local Toyota dealership does not. They send over an 04 Corolla with about 300k miles on it to get it repainted. Turns out the white Corollas of that generation had a special coverage for paint defects. This car had rust on the roof etc. Sure enough they are paying to get a new roof installed and the whole car resprayed. Customer doesn't have to pay a dime. I assume that the person who owns the car must've done something similar to what you had done minus claiming safety concern.
