This post was originally created by @dooderek back on MSF back in August of 2011:

first and fore most, thanks to jordan (keefover) for helping/doing most of the work.

no special tools really necessarily standard metric sockets/deep

tips: drive car till almost empty on gas. lol half a tank is heavy

notes: if you follow my diy you WILL need to d/c the driveshaft, drop the fuel tank/rear diff and removal of cat/dp back exhaust. if you do not feel comfortable doing this i assure you there is nothing too crazy or meticulous. very straightforward if you follow this diy youll be fine. ALSO the gas tank will be moved/postioned ALOT during the install, so having low gas really helps. unless your as strong as me then, it really wont matter

    step 1.
remove the bracket holding up the fuel tank. the fuel tank is a saddle tank so theres 2 brackets, one for each bump and 2 bolts per bracket = 4 bolts total *BE SURE to remove the 2 electrical connectors to the fuel tank from underneath your rear passenger seats)

step 3. begin to take off the rear diff mount
2 bolts. make sure something is proping the rear diff up. for some reason i forgot why (if there even was one) we didnt remove the drive shaft first.

step 4. removal of drive shaft
now be sure to mark where it was orginally bolted up too (same bolt pattern). also when it drops lower it slowly, and place it on something with a cloth. you dont want to damage or chip your drive shaft. also note unless proped up otherwise your fuel tank will most likely be sitting on your drive shaft, so place a cushion there too.
