Injector Seal Replacement Question

Is that for a brand new one?

I'm looking at the remanufactured ones from either Beck/Arnley or GB on Rock Auto.

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy doing my injectors as well because he has some spares.

@Duey1083 , Who is doing you injector cleaning? Are they close to you or are you shipping them out?

 

It's a guy local to me. So I can drive them out and pick them up without dealing with mail, etc.

Why do you ask?

EDIT: @Awafrican and @Enki, I appreciate you guys finding out those prices for me. Talking to the guy who is servicing my injectors, that plastic is merely cosmetic. The coil is located inside the sealed metal body underneath that.

He does not expect I'll have any issues with that injector if it tests okay.

 

Asking for a friend, lol. These cars need injector cleaning periodically. Interested to see how it goes for you, and future valuable info. (and I know where you live haha)

 

The guy I'm taking mine to does it out of a shop at his home in High River. He has all the ASNU machines for ultrasonic cleaning and what not and will replace the filter baskets and pertinent o-rings.

However, this guy does ot flow test at 2000+ psi. He does that at lower pressure...5 bar (73 psi) and then interpolated using formulas to ensure we're within flow specifications. This is apparently controversial, but it is quite difficult to find a shop that does it at rail pressure.

Therefore, if you're looking to send your injectors off for cleaning, find someone that does it at rail pressures. Otherwise, I would recommend just finding someone local to you. There was a guy named Tom that does the testing at rail pressures in Kelowna, BC...I believe his shop is called Precision Line Injection (or something like that).

I just didn't want to go through the hassle of shipping and having them returned this time.

On a side note, I am trying the Overspeed seals this time. My injectors were stuck in the head because two of my CS seals were leaking.

 

Thank you for the info. Hopefully my proximity to T.dot will give me some options to find one who does full rail pressure. Not this time, but probably next winter.

I think we all tend to overthink this stuff as well. It created a heated debate on Shoutbox a couple weeks ago.

To be honest, I think if interpolating with math gets us in the ballpark of where we need to be with the injectors, the most important part is the fact the injector was cleaned and orings replaced, but also cleaning up the spray pattern.

Think about how many vehicles are now GDI. Factor that with how hard it is to find a shop that will test at the higher pressures. There's either no market for it, or it's been deemed to be unnecessary, which both play into each other.

EDIT: this is my opinion, not fact.

 

99% of everything on this platform is overthunk. I tend to just go with the flow and do whatever and it's working out so far for me.

 

My injectors still cut the mustard...passed their inductance and flow tests and are cleaned up and ready to be reinstalled.

 

now to get the scotchbrite out of your head.

 

Anxiety levels just peaked. Lol.

I'm going to rotate the crank until the valves close. I'll try and vacuum the inside of the cylinder through the spark plug hole with a small nylon hose.

Then I'll blow compressed air and vacuum the intake runners. I'll clean the runners with a degreaser and microfiber cloth several times until clean. Brush with brake clean, then one final blow out and vacuum.

Then I'll change the oil and filter before start-up, warm the car up and burp the coolant that I lost, change the oil and filter again, and then run for a couple hundred miles, and change oil and filter one more time.

This way, I can say I tried my very best when me and the fiance are shopping around for a new car for me, hahaha.

Only kidding...this is probably overkill by a large margin, and I'm sure it'll be fine.

this is kind of late and idk where youre at with this install, if you havent bought a new injector already you might consider reaching out to graveyard for a cleaned and flow tested one, probably cheaper than buying new. Also, while youre down there, GET RID OF THE TORX BITS. fuck those things. You can buy the correct stud and nut at ACE but i forgot the size and you need to dremel the conical washer off the stock bolts.

Alternatively, buy the kit from graveyard

 

Much appreciated! I did consider replacing those torx bolts...but didn'tplan it into the work, so I couldn't have gotten the replacement washers in time. I struggled far more with pulling the injectors themselves.

Fortunately my injectors tested and flowed perfectly, so I'm going to roll with them without replacing at the moment.

 

Thanks @Duey1083 for being a total bro and rushing off to FedEx to overnight me your Injector tool because I was an idiot and didn't take you up on your offer to lend me it before I actually started the job. 3/4 stuck can't even get them to move a little right now my hands look like I've lost a battle. Blood blisters and broken skin everywhere.

 

Yeesh...yeah, when I was trying to pull them with my pliers, they slipped and I took off a few good chunks of skin.

Hurt pretty damn bad.

Glad I could help out man! Hopefully you get the injectors out to be cleaned in time. My injector guy was super understanding of my situation...the pros of working out of his garage.

 

I think the ones that were stuck ish for me i used a piece of thin rope wrapped around it and a wiggle to get it out.
