When I was under the car it looks like the car bottomed out a few times. Bunch of shit under there is all scratched up and studs for the shields are bent as well. Never will understand why anyone would want to lower a car that is used on public roads. I can understand lowers for racing purposes, but for a DD... impracticable.

@Littleloogy when I've had 2 different cars reprogrammed, neither required the car to start until the process was done. And starting it was just the VT guys (don't ask, it was a weird situation) making sure the ECU reprogramming worked properly.

Are you implying that the engine start may not be required for a dealer reflash? It seems that they only start the engine to verify that everything is working as it should before giving it back to the customer. I know with The AP re flashes on the Gen2, I have reprogrammed without starting without issue. You would think just KOEO would be good enough. As long as they can get my OBD2 and immobilizer working I'll be ecstatic.

[doublepost=1501649692][/doublepost]Special shoutout @Kirk'sRedRocket and my kid brother for helping me get this lettuce picker on the trailer. Damn car kept bottoming out. But after over inflating the tires and a few 2x4s later we finally prevailed.

Did not work. Mazda could not connect to it. I'm done with this project. I am dropping it at my warehouse and getting a tarp.

Well, you could drop in another ecu and see what happens. Did they try that? Was the odb port getting power?

Yes, the Port was getting power. The Can-L, Can-H, signal ground, 12v+ and ground all seem to be fine according to my meter. Dealer did suggest doing just that to verify is the PCM is bad or not. Thought about getting this.

But I just spent $220 renting a trailer and dealer fees. So needless to say I'm not in the mood to buy anything at the moment.

You could get a parts car and then you wouldn't have to work about anything.

Isn't it nice spending a bunch on money on a project and all you can do it look at it and make zoom zoom noises with you mouth and pretend like you missed 3rd? (I did that today when know one was looking)

If I sold that engine you would be the 4th owner of it without it being turned over. I am beginning to think the engine is cursed. I better do the world a favor and hold on to it, just in case.

I believe the engine start is just for them to verify it actually worked.

As for the ECU being bricked, you can find some for as cheap as $100 (I think I looked on copart) and then it's a trip back to the dealer to reprogram. Or you can try the thing you linked for $270, but I have no idea if that's good enough to get around the dealer re-program. Although, if you get the new ECU in you can probably get that mobile reprogrammer guy to come back out (verify they can do full re-programming, not just key programming).

If the ECU was bricked... would I still have correct voltages at my sensors and would the throttle plate still open and close when you turn the ignition off? Because it seems to be doing these things no problem. Found a ECU on the Bay for less then $100, but what are the odds that it is not any good either.

Mazda thought it was a stretch to think that a ECU would brick from just sitting on a shelf, but he did claim to have seen stranger things.

Are any of the other modules readable over the OBD-II port?
With the dealer tools, you can reprogram a used ECU to your VIN and sync it with your immobilizer/ignition modules.
They will say you need a new one because they want to sell you a new one and they don't want to mess with used parts.

Ive had this done, and the only reason they did it was because I was buddies with a guy who worked the parts counter.
