Low Compression

Hello all,
So I have been getting oil coming out of my vented catch can along with in my intake/inter-cooler pipes. Turbo seems fine, however a small stutter while just cruising lead me to think I may need to check compression.
Results of Dry Test: Left to right
130-130-120-140.
I live in Colorado, but assume 120 is bad no matter where you are. I didnt see much difference when doing a wet test.
Looks like I may be looking at stock out or rebuild in the near future.

 

Equally disappointing compression! At least you have options now.

 

For sure, just not the best time. Buying house, new baby, all that Jazz. Might need to start reaching out to some builders.

 

Not sure there is ever a good time for a motor to go. You can get built, FJ, Relentless, etc. Edge does do financing and can get a rebuilt longblock with a warranty if needed too. Depends on what your really want to put into it.

 

Have one other option. Not sure it will work but we will see.

Aftermarket warranty...... might be able to swing this.

 

I thought if the compression numbers don't raise after adding oil it most likley not the pistons/ ring lands. Have you done a leak down?
The less dence air from yore altitude will generally make the numbers low. The percent difference between the highest and lowest ~15% so its close but not horrible.

 

Leakdown was performed this morning, 50%-50%-30%-60%. Oil did not change the numbers on the compression test, and have excessive blow by past the rings. Will need engine replacement..... Fun times.

 

Sell speed 6, buy unicorn bicycle. Problem solved!

@Turbo reviving this, just found I have a compression issue as well, what did you end up doing?

 

So my warranty will only cover mechanical failure. worn piston rings are not covered. I have to decide if I want the shop to tear it apart and see if there is an underlining issue. However, with all cylinders being low and high blow by most likely its due to just worn rings from high boost when I was over boosting for a bit. I have to decide if I trade the car or rebuild.

That must be dry and not warmed up? That doesn't seem out of the ordinary if that's the case.

 

I was thinking the same thing. If he is running that before his turbo I'd need to check mine since I've had a bnrs3 since the car hit 12084 miles.

That was warm. I just attributed it to being at 8500 ft above sea level. My dad's car was nearly identical. I think I will go rent a compression tester and see if the values change. I am using an older harbor freight one.
