Who on here has been there. I plan on running there at the SCCA runoffs this year and I am hoping for some intel on the track better than what you can find on youtube videos. We will be running the pro course.

Hi Derrick, I've ran Mid-Ohio about 6 HPDE track events in my MS6 and have a friend who races Spec Miata there. We can help you with any questions you may have. Fire away!

    Great!

    First few questions

How much runoff is there in 1? If you drift off past the track on exit are you a goner?

Can you take 3 and 10 without lifting?

In your speed 6 what gear were you in 12?

    Thanks

Are we talking pro course or club course?

In my MS6 = no lift on 3 or 10

    I'm in 3rd on turn 12 (iirc)

[doublepost=1461079717][/doublepost]My SM friend says the following:

How much runoff is there in 1? If you drift off past the track on exit are you a goner? - None. Only if you spin and end up in the tire wall on the inside of the corner (outside of the track). If you go off wide, you're usually fine.

Can you take 3 and 10 without lifting? - Yes.

    3 = kink. 10 = thunder valley.

We are running the pro course. I will be there for the Pirelli World Challenge event so I plan on getting some data dumps from AIM units to check out for vehicle speeds from some TCA Mx5s since TCA = T4 club racing (more or less).

Does he have any data he is willing to share from SM races?

    Thanks
    Derrick

Hey Derrick, I am the SM racer friend that Evan mentioned. :) I have some data that I can share. I'll shoot you a PM with my email address.

Edit: Well I can't figure out how to send you a message on this forum, so if you could shoot your email over I'll send you some data.

A couple other notes I thought of... Mid-Ohio likes old tires. I'm not sure if this will be the same with the WC Pirellis but with R-compounds like Toyo RRs and Hoosier SM7s new tires will be considerably slower than old tires.

The rain line at MO is also one of the most dramatic differences from the dry line that I've ever seen. The basic idea is to stay off the sealer that is at the apex of almost every corner. But, it's easier just to check out rain video on YouTube and see how others do it.

    PM sent.

The entry list for the SCCA majors at Mid-O looks crazy with 481 entrants all trying to get some track time before the runoffs.

Yep. I'm on the waiting list for Spec Miata, I doubt I'll get in. I was stupid and waited too long.

I don't have a ton of experience there, but I do remember turn 1 having less grip than I thought it would. Heading off wide is pretty ok, but don't go off inside the corner as there isn't much room for correction.
