hey guys, long time lurker but just recently joined! 2013 ms3 approx 80, 000 km. frequently maintained, daily driven 135+ km for school. drove 70 km today and went to school. when I started my car to go home my oil pressure light was on. checked oil level, it's filled. just did an oil change with a napa platinum 41348 and Pennzoil 5w30 about 1400 kms ago and everything has been fine until today. I unhooked the battery , unplugged my oil pressure sensor connector, cleaned it with a brush and alcohol and applied a dielectric grease. wiggled the connector as I started the car and it went away. got home 45 minutes later and shut the car down. 10 mins later I went to leave for work and the light came back on upon startup. i shut car down, wiggled connector, nothing. after idling for 30 seconds the light went away and I went to work. now I'm at work and the light just won't go off and I am nervous. what should I do, can I test the sensor? should I just rebuild the pump? new pump? is there an ecoboost counterpart ? sorry for the long post

I'm not positive on oil pressure issues but I think you might be able to borrow a oil pressure gauge from autozone and check it. I'd make sure you don't have real oil pressure issues asap. With the light coming on randomly, rounds like a sensor issue.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

I've seen where the light never came on when the owner had no oil pressure. Don't rely on the factory idiot light; get a gauge and 10 psi per 1000 RPM is expected (at temp, will be higher when cold).
