P0193

    So I'm just starting to trouble shoot but I figured I would ask here. My car has been sitting for a few months and I just finally got it all back together (BBK, new meth lines, JMF intake mani). Started it up and it wants to stall, but runs. Throws the P0193 code and fuel pressure is pegged at 22XX psi.

    I'm assuming spill valve, but before I go and get yelled at by my wife for taking apart the car I just got back together I figured I would ask the community for ideas. All the connections seem to be there, but maybe I'm missing one that matters.

    That sounds like a short/open circuit in the fuel pressure sensor or wiring, depending on whether it's normally open or closed. Did you try unplugging the fuel pressure sensor and plugging it back in, or cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner? I'm guessing it's related to pulling the manifold. In the process of disconnecting that connector, something probably went wrong.

    I would think it would take a hell of a lot of gunk for the spill valve to get stuck closed (instead of open). And I'd think it wouldn't be pegged in that case because the PRV would crack.

    Yeah I'm thinking it's a sensor. Key in engine of it still shows 2281 psi. I pray I don't have to pull the jmf agian. It's such a pain in the ass

    Isn't that connection accessible without removing the manifold? On the stock at least it's really easy. It's that dude all the way on the passenger side of the fuel rail that faces forward. Ties into the same harness as the MAP/BAT sensor. I'm sure you know this already but just in case

    Gen 1 has a ps pump where you Pu guys dont. I haven't had a chance to look but I will try to check it tonight once I'm done changing oil in all my other cars.

    Well I have found my issue. I dont know if my JMF is hitting (seems unlikely as lots of people run these and I have never heard of this issue) or if I pushed on something installing it. But its broke. Luckily I have a spare so that will be going on tonight to see if it fixes it and I can finally drive my car.

    @ALPINEST4RS says I should swap my whole spare rail, and not just the sensor. I tend to trust what he says (as he is pretty much always right), so looks like thats what I will be doing tonight. yay.....

    I don't understand why you can't just unthread the sensor and pop a new one in. @ALPINEST4RS care to elaborate?

    He mentioned how the whole rail comes as an assembly from mazda, and that its probably set up at the factory. I have a whole spare rail, so its not a huge deal, but its just more of a pain in the ass.

    There is no torque spec for the fuel rail sensor as it comes from the factory with the fuel rail. They are considered a one time use upon removal/tampered with. Fuel leaks may be evident overtime, rather than instantly. I'd say do it, but I don't wanna see a car burn down and know that I said it would work. Just not my style.

    Anytime you mess with the fuel system (especially DI) everything is crucial. We have over 2000psi running through our systems, rather than a 60psi standard PI system. I'm very suprised the hard line going to the HPFP is re-usable. On a GM 3.6 LY7 we had to replace every pipe tampered with because of the higher fuel pressure.

    Yeah at this point I will just do the whole thing, I have a spare anyway.
