Disclaimer: Tried to search, but there are SO many threads on weird pop/thud/clunk noises I can't comb through all of them.

I installed a used street unit RMM recently a mazdaspeed bro hooked me up with. It's in good shape, rubber is intact. It was a bitch to get in, felt like it was too girthy. Finally I got it with some silicone lube and prying. I got all the bolts tight and took it on a test drive. I took off pretty hard from a stop and heard/felt a pop/thud/clunk kind of noise. It felt like something shifted very slightly. I went back to the garage, got under the car, and checked the bolts. I forget the torque specs but I used whatever corksport had in their install guide. Nothing loosened up.

I still get the noise occasionally. It's always a single noise. It never did this before the rmm install. It seems more common if I'm aggressive in 1st or 2nd and the wheels aren't perfectly straight. Cannot replicate it in 3rd gear or higher.

I'd like to know what's going on. Any suggestions on what to check? I would think it has to be something with the RMM. Since everything torqued to spec I have no idea what it could be. Unless it's my test pipe banging something (my test pipe doesn't attach to hangers, I've seen threads on that) but it sounds more like a noise associated with a high tensile strength. If that makes any sense. I'm at a loss. Previous rmm owner said he never experienced it.

I'm assuming since it's a Streetunit RMM it's used. Does the bushing look good? Some pics of the install might be useful here. I'm not sure why you would need silicone lube and tons of prying to install this. This is generally pretty straightforward and you just slide that bastard in there and bolt it down.

Yeah I updated OP. It's used. The bushing looked great. It seemed like it was too wide to get into the cavity. Definitely wider than oem. The OEM slides right in and out. The SU, not so much.

Most people would recommend the Damond ones these days. They're good mounts.

Remove SURE shit. Remove bushing. Throw away bushing and collar. Take aluminum and recycle it. Problem solved.

Pro tip, with the Damond make sure you install with the washers in the correct orientation.

    Ask me how I know...

Hahaha. I saw your old post when I was searching for RMM noises.

Side note... Didn't realize SU was tied in with SURE.

Similar thing was happening to me as well. I thought it was the RMM but turned out it was the stock TMM. The little rubber bushing inside was destroyed came out in 4 pieces. I replaced it with the Corksport TMM insert and been good ever since.

Got the Damond mount in today. Called Damond because the washers I got were different from the picture online. He said he updated them and forgot to update the guide. No biggie. Super nice guy.

After I figured out the washer orientation, slid it right in. No lube or prying like the SU. Took for a test drive and the popping is gone.

SU is shit. Fuck them. Highly recommend Damond from what I've experienced thus far.

    That is all

That's great news, that this fixed your problem. I'm sure once it's broken in, you love it even more.

Update in case anyone searches this thread in the future.

The vibes seem to have settled. There is a little shake on start up, a little more nvh taking off in 1st, and some weird harmonic resonance deal when engine braking from 3k-2.8k or right around there in 6th gear. Even then, the mirrors don't shake or rattle at all on de-cel. I can feel a little more nvh idling with the a/c on but it isn't bad at all. All the people that rode in my car couldn't tell. It puts power down much better. I spin 2nd, but I can feel the lsd working and there is seemingly no wheel hop.

Highly recommend the Damond mount. His customer service was awesome and the product is great. You might also consider a CPe stage 2 from everything I've read.

Damond mounts really transform the driving experience. Especially, with all three. Did you hook your friend back up with the Sure mount?
